Norma 6PPC Brass

I have an opportunity to purchase some Norma 6PPC Brass. Is this brass of decent quality? I’ve read good and not so good reviews about it. I will being using it in varmint matches and club shoots - no high level competition.

Also a question about this brass - will it fit tight neck .262 chambers?

Thanks!

No, the Norma will not fit in a .262 chamber. The wall thickness of the necks will run around .0115, depending on the lot. It works great in a .268/.269 chamber.

There are competitors that use it, but many of us are locked into the 220 Russian Lapua case. For some reason, Norma decided to make the web area OD just about .002 smaller than the Lapua.

if you are not shooting in what we call the upper load window, it will be fine, but you will have to turn the necks If you indeed have a chamber with a .262 neck.

I use norma brass for my .268 neck ppc but like mentioned above gotta use 220 Russian for a tight neck.

+1^^^ Exactly correct. It'll work well for you in club level and varmint matches, and it is of very decent quality. IMHO. WD

I bought a LV PPC years ago that was built on a Robert Dodd action, an XP style action. When I tried to chamber a Lapua case in it, it would not chamber. I called the action maker and he said, of course it won't fit, I built that rifle and my reamer is ground for Norma 6PPC cases. I got some and never had a problem afterward. My loadings were in the 3250/3300 fps range. The rifle shot great.

One more thing about the Norma brass should be mentioned. Norma has made 6PPC brass for a long time, and the earlier production had softer heads than Lapua so it would not stand up to the hottest loads without primer pockets opening up. A few years back Norma fixed this problem by double striking their case heads for this caliber, which increased work hardening. Here is a link to a video on the newer brass which was introduced in 2010.

You can use it in your .262 neck- just turn it down to .0082-6 and you will be fine. The shoulder may be back further than you would expect. If so, you still end up fireforming the first time.

As others have said, it is consistent brass and I had good luck with it as long as I was not shooting faster loads. Just as accurate as Lapua. The primer pockets will not hold up if you push them too hard.
