Norma 6 Dasher reamer

I have a question...If you had a 6 Dasher built with the new Norma reamer, do you have to use Norma brass exclusively or will it also be compatible with hydroformed Lapua brass?

It would be compatible with Lapua hydro-formed brass. However, the Lapua hydro-formed necks will be short about .060 from the original Norma Dasher brass.

Yes I agree you will also have a carbon ring in front that you will have to keep cleaned out.

Nothing wrong with having the gap at the end of the neck. I have found if you use a bronze brush that your normal cleaning routine will take care of any possible carbon ring. If your a nylon brush guy, or even worse, a patches only guy then you will have more problems on your hands then the carbon ring.

Thanks for the replies..I figured it would work but was worried about the potential carbon ring. I have 150 Normas and 100 Lapua I'll send out to DJ's to get hydroformed and see which ones I like best.

If it's Norma BR brass I wouldn't spend the money, they last 6-8 firings and then the primer pockets give up. Sell it and buy more Lapua. Lapua BR is great and lasts a long time. Factory Norma Dasher brass lasts well too, it's just their BR that's soft.

Since I posted this I had a disscusion with a very expierenced shooter about Norma BR brass. Norma BR is a .0015"+- smaller in the case head than Lapua. His opinion is that a die that fits the case head better will keep the primer pockets tight. I highly respect his opinion. My personal expierence with Norma BR brass is only based on 2 barrels chambered with a reamer optimized for Lapua and I suspect his opinion is based on magnatudes of that. Since the new Norma Dasher reamer is generally tighter at the .200" dimension Norma BR brass fire formed in to Dasher might very well live a long decent life in a Norma Dasher chamber especially if used with the correct die.

I don't necessarly want to send the OP's thread in a different direction so if we want more disussion about this it might be better to start a new thread.

I run Lapua brass in the Norma chamber (PTG reamer) without issue. I use Boretech C4 Carbon Remover with either a nylon or bronze brush to keep after the carbon ring. Lapua brass lasts forever if you don't get too crazy loading, and eventually the neck will grow into the longer chamber length (.002-.003in per firing).
