Norma 6 Dasher F CLASS brass fired in a Lapua Chamber?

There is a very good reason a reamer specific to the Norma Dasher brass was designed and offered. While I will stop short of saying trimming for a Lapua chamber is 100% necessary I would venture it is 99.5% necessary.

That depends on the trim length of your chamber. Some Dashers have a long trim length. But if the brass is too long for your chamber and pinches the bullet, pressure will skyrocket. Get a Sinclair chamber guage and determine the actual length of your chamber. It fits in a case and you shut your bolt and then take it out and measure your actual chamber length. Matt

The .200" line on the Norma is about .001" smaller. Depending on how loose the chamber is you may have a slight bulge or not.

Well, i can tell you what happened....

New rifle and it was supposed to have been reamed with the f class reamer...it was not.

I loaded 500 of these and went and shot the midrange nationals at atterbury in july. The rifle shot great (99.54%) good enough for 5th any rifle.

I had a few popped and pierced primers but i just attributed it to the hot weather and semi-warm loads (33 gr varget).

I got home and started to investigate the brass and it shwed what looke like a “case head separation” line....but about .300 below the body shoulder junction. They also felt like a burr at the body shoulder junction.

I was pissed at the brass...then i started doing some investigation. I called the smith and it was determined that the lapua reamer was used.

So, it appears, that on a certain level the rifle was headspacing not on the shoulder. Therefore, upon firing, the shoulder was being stretched to the chamber.

In summary:

It shot lights out

I was basically fire forming

I ruined 500 pieces of brass

No one died
