NO MORE Carbon Rings--UPDATED--

oneshot 66

DIRTY TRUCKS, LONELY WIVES, HAPPY DOGS
I suspended the chamber end of a barrel with a carbon ring in an ultrasound and the ring is gone. 40 minutes in hot 3/4 water, 1/4 vinegar and a few drop of Dawn.

I cleaned the barrel and found the all the carbon where I ultrasounded is gone, but above that it is still there. Photo #1 is the end of the neck and freebore, #2 is just above the freebore and #3 is where the ultrasound didn't cover. So if you ultrasounded the entire barrel it would be easy to clean it spotless.

Many of you shoot stainless barrels so this comment won't apply. I use a strong solution of vinegar to remove bluing from firearms when I complete reblue job is required. Will the small about used by the oneshot 66 do the same? I just don't know.

Hmmm now you got me thinking. I bought a 36” long ultrasonic weapon cleaning system at auction years ago for cheap$$. Maybe I can use this to deep clean my barrels. It’s been sitting under the bench since I brought it home. I have a couple older barrels might give a bath

For what it's worth, it doesn't take the black (carbon?) from between the lands (groove).

Has anyone ever just tried Dawn? Seriously, I want to know.
On the PH scale Dawn is neutral at about 6.0 . You need a product on the alkaline side of the PH scale for carbon. Suppressor cleaner works great as well as C4. Whatever you use make sure it does not have water as carrier like Dawn. Water is the universal solvent.

Gemini says this about C4:

Bore Tech C4 Carbon Remover is a water-based, ammonia-free, and biodegradable solvent. While the exact proportions of its "proprietary" formula are protected, its Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and technical specifications reveal the following primary chemical components:

Key Active Ingredients

According to the SDS, the formulation relies on a combination of surfactants and penetrants to break down carbon at a molecular level:

Water (H2O): The primary solvent (up to 90% of the solution), making it non-flammable and easier to handle than petroleum-based cleaners.
