nk sizer

i have been seting up my redding bushing dies for a 6br. i have never used bushing dies. i read the paoer work and have them set right. the bushing only sizes about 1/3 of the neck on both fl and nk bushing dies. . is this the way bushing dies work? i have a nk die for another cal that will size the entire nk. the bushing is .269 . the gun shot good with these dies from the person that had the gun and dies before me. i am just new to bushing dies. thanks

The die should be sizing the neck almost all the way down, there will be a small unsized band by the shoulder but it's very small. If you have the bushing properly held down on a Type S Redding or the micrometer properly adjusted on the competition model, then the die itself must be too far up in your press. Bring the die down to contact the shellholder then back off just enough to break contact(for a neck die - FL dies are adjusted differently).

Here's a short article on selecting the right bushing size, but I think you have a more fundamental die adjustment concern at the moment.

i called redding . they said it would size about 1/2 the neck. they told me to let the die come in contact with the shell holder. i do and it still only sizes about 1/3 the neck. for every one that uses redding bushing nk redding 6br die, will yours size the entire neck?

The Redding dies that I have bought are like yours, only about 2/3 of the neck will ever be sized. NO amount of adjustment will size more of the neck. It seems to me that when they make the die they need a little meat for the bushing at the shoulder area.

I find that for 6ppc or 6br there is never an issue, and in fact I adjust the bushings to float, and size only as far as seating depth.

But I have had my 223 Redding dies cut to allow more sizing for use with my AR.
