Just saw SWFA has Nikon 6.5-20x44 Monarch UCC scopes on sale. I checked on Nikon's homepage and they are not listed so I'll assume they are a discontinued model. Anyone have one? I'm building a 1000 yard gun and for the here and now I have to keep my scope under $500 or the wife will strangle me. Thanks

Yes, I have one I bought from them earlier this year. I like it except I wish it had the side focus adjustment. It is the older model. I just bought a new 6-24 X 50 from Arcadian Sales for $519 and it has the side focus. Great scope.

GREAT Scope for the money. I had the 6.5-20 w/ a lit Mil Dot.
It tracked dead nuts, clear glass, and surprisingly, the lit reticle was actually pretty decent. Most lower priced scopes that I have seen have poor lit reticles, too bright at lowest settings), but this one was good.

The AO worked out for me too, because I'm a lefty....
SF scopes are a REAL pain for me!!

Sorry to come into this thread so late - haven't had much time to play on the computer lately. I think the Monarchs are good scopes, but also think there are better choices for LR use. For one thing, the 6.5-20 model has 1/8 min. clicks, while most of us prefer 1/4 min. clicks, especially for LR.

No knock on the Nikon, but like most scopes with a 1" tube, it doesn't have a lot of surplus internal adjustment for LR use. You'd for sure want to mount it on a sloped base with 20 MOA of slope built in. I know some folks turn their noses up at SWFA's Super Sniper scopes, but in the price range you mentioned, I honestly feel a 16x SS would be a better choice for 1000yds. I've got a couple of them - one mounted on a Nesika K with barrels in both 6 Dasher & 6.5x55, and the other on a trued Rem 700 in an A5 stock with a 30" Bartlein chambered for 6x47 Lapua - they both get used quite a bit at 1000, and I've never felt the need for a better scope on either rifle.

Flatlander, I have one of the SS in 20X on an AR-15 set up with the 6mmAR upper from Robert Whitley. I mounted it on one of Steve Ivey's 150 MOA adjustable rails and got my elevation with the micrometer. I only had to move my windage 1 click to the right to be dead on at 100 yds. I have shot it at 600 yds. which is the longest range I have access to and have been able to take out pop bottles filled with water consistantly. For the money the SS is hard to beat even though I realize that there are several scopes out there that are superior to it as I also own several Leupolds including two MK IVs and two 12 X 42 X 56 NXS Nightforces. The SS has done what I expected it to do on this particular set up and I have no plans to replace it. Not to be-little the Nikon, but I have owned several of the older high magnification scopes and never got either one to track like I think it should. Just my opinion. Bill
