For sale is a pre Monarch Nikon 6.5-20x44 target/varmint scope in excellent+ condition.
No ring marks, glass near perfect, fine crosshair reticle, 1/8” click adjustments. Elastic band on lense caps is stretched out.
Has spent its entire life on a Rem 700 VS in 220 swift.

I think Nikon called it something other than gloss, but it’s more like a bright satin finish. Almost like a glossy bead blast.

Is the difference between this and a similar looking Monarch version maybe just the lack of a Monarch inscription? This looks just like my Monarch scopes.

I’m not a Nikon expert. What I do know is this scope was bought new close to 30 years ago and it was before Nikon came out with their Monarch line. This scope and the early Monarchs were made in Japan. At some point Nikon shifted production to the Philippines. The Jap made scopes were always considered better by most shooters. I’ve had both and to my eye the Jap made scopes seem clearer.

I had one just like it made in Japan. An absolutely awesome scope. I’d buy it if I had the extra cash. Good varmint scope
