Nightforce SHV 5-20x56 IR

Looking for opinions on this scope. Quality, Clarity. I know it's dependable based on the Nightforce reputation and having NXS models for the past 8 years. Just know nothing about the SHV scopes.

For the money, They are a very nice scope
Depends on your uses
I kind of like Primary Arms scopes for a little bit cheaper price
-----------
When I looked through an SHV a few years back it was VERRRRY hard to resist buying it
I use Mils though and they do not offer a high powered scope in Mils
If they did I would have bought one
They are also a somewhat lighter scope, being more of a bench scope than a tactical use scope
So keep that in mind.
But the ones I looked at had an edge in Clarity and Light Transmission even beating out a Steiner I was looking at.
I ended up getting a Kahles though, it beat every scope this High End Shop had and I fell in love the instant I looked through it
I would say the SHV was next in line to the Kahles as far as clarity and light transmission.
I was able to look through and compare all the scopes outside at approx 400 yds.
Be sure you look through it outside and at distance as the inside light is catered to selling scopes making even a BSA look good in the store.
The SHV is a good scope

I really don't need it for anything in particular but a good buddy is selling his for $750 if I want it. Tough to beat the price. MOAR reticle and in new condition and not even a ring mark on it. I don't want a scope that starts out a 7 or 8 power let alone 12. It's a hunting scope for me so like to keep the bottom number at 4 or 5. I'll put it on a LR rifle for sure but not really shopping for one. Appreciate the input.

The only problem with that scope is the 56 MM Objective. As a rule, you have to mount it so high to keep the objective off the barrel, that your cheek is way off the comb of the stock. May not bother you but it does me....

Agreed. I'd much rather have the 50mm but this was the deal I'm looking at so I'm good take it. Seems like a great price. Not sure my buddy even had it out to shoot. No ring marks and like new condition.

I have the 4.5-14 model plus a handful of other models across the range. I've used mine for hunting and plinking out to 1000 without issue.

They are ok. Glass would be similar to an NXS but the turrets are definately not as nice. Smaller and a bit mushy. Repeatable for winding every now and then.

Your eyes tell the story. They must repeat adjustments.
If possible look thru as many as possible before $$$$$.
My old eyes never like Night Force, Sorry.
Sightron 3 with 50mm Bell ok for me.

Good luck

My Sightron scopes look foggy to my eyes. Only my STAC 4-20s look clear. Your right, everyone's eyes are different.
This is interesting
Mostly I've not heard anyone say this about Sightrons
Regardless of this, I have heard everybody's eyes being different
Maybe within these assesments it would also be good info to list our eyesight

Mine 20/20 in right dominant eye
Not Color Blind (I see Red extremely well)

Mines 20/20 with glasses. I don't shoot with them. I adjust the parallax and ocular focus to clear up the glass for my eyes. Could be why

I think that's a good idea to not shoot with glasses and to use the ocular what it was intended for.
Less mediums for the light to transfer through
-------
BTW I think $750 is pretty good
I was going to say I think their $1100 new price is a touch high even if they are great.
According to all things I've read over the years with Nightforce also
Their click adjustments are the most accurate and repeatable overall
---------
Not that other scopes are bad, just one thing to consider in their favor

Seems like the price is $1395 everywhere for this MOAR IR model. Not sure it's a negotiable price OTC. Buddy is selling this scope to me for a fair price considering it's probably never been at a range or in the woods. I would have offered $900 if he didn't put a price on it for me
