Nightforce Reticles and Rings - Savage FTR

Hello All!

I'm getting ready to purchase optics for my Savage FTR rifle.

I have all but settled on a Nightforce 12-42 Benchrest... although I would certainly listen to suggestions in a similar price point.

My big dilemma now is what reticle to go with. I would have preferred a very fine cross hair but it looks like they no longer offer that option. It's now a toss up between the np-2DD and a mildot. The R2 is just too busy for me.

I generally will hold off a light wind and not dial - that leads me to think the mildot is the right choice. I'm concerned it may be too thick for 600 yard targets though. Thoughts/opinions?

Second - I need rings. Anyone with the same rifle want to share what rings they are using to clear a 56mm objective? Will 1.26" get me enough clearance, or do I need to get up in the 1.375 range?

Thanks in advance!

It will depend on the base your using, and the barrel diameter, but a set of high Burris Signature rings will work great on most of them..
I prefer the NP2DD but I don't hold off, I'm a clicker...

I have the benchrest with np-r2. I know you said it may be a bit busy but I will say the cross hair is very fine. therefore it really doesnt get in the way of aiming at small targets.

Be careful if you go with mildot reticles because most of them will be in milliradians, and you are shooting at a target that is very close to an MOA target. You will hear most people give wind adjustments in MOA and if you have a milliradian scope you will have to make a conversion. Granted the conversion is not hard sitting at the computer but when you are in a competition at 90° with sweat running in your eyes you may find it harder.
