Nightforce reticle swap cost .... HOLLY!

Called today to find out the cost for a reticle swap ... Now i'm not sure the labor involved but my god the price is insane ...

Anyone want to swap a Mint 2013 Nightforce Competition CTR-1 for my Mint 2013 DDR? We will both save $400

Curious did the 2013 Competition ever come with any of the newer reticules? CTR-2, DDR-2 or FTR-1

Its really $375 ... but factor in $25 shipping to get it their. and i didn't ask if that included return shipping. I want to know if I get the old reticle or do they resell it to someone else. I though Leupold was expensive.

My Schmidt an Bendovers were $500 ea. was worth it to me.

I just totaled a car that cost less than an S&B. I thought they were over priced 5 yrs ago, at todays 2x higher prices, not for me thanks.

Should I mention a friend who bought a Land Rover and how much a tune up cost? I just got 2 weaver T36 for $625. Not a NF, but............

Leupold's price is $110 for reticle swap, delivered, you pay shipping there. Might as well get your name engraved on it for another $70.

I sent my Leupold BR scope in for a reticle change last November - $60 including return shipping.

... Maybe just me, but under the contrary I feel $400 is reasonable, all be considered.
Donovan

Good reason to do the research and make sure you get the reticle you'll actually use when ordering the scope. I agree with Donovan. And are we should probably be careful not to choke on our comments when comparing NF with Leupold here. You can change the igniters on a Chevy for a whole lot less than you can change the igniters in a BMW. ;)

It's very labor intensive for Nightforce to change out a reticle. The reticle is probably one of the single most expensive pieces in a riflescope. The glass elements as a whole comprise a huge portion of the total cost and the reticle out of the that bunch is a big percentage due to the technology it takes to create such fine line detail to the level that Nightforce expects.

Nightforce doesn't make any money on the reticle swaps. A lower quality glass in a scope would be cheaper to change out. The higher quality the more expensive the cost. You get what you pay for.

I would either pay the money or sell your scope and get a scope with the reticle you want. I hope that helps.

I do believe they have gotten that high as the glass is polished and matched, so a swap would mean finding a suitable match first not just grabbing any piece of glass too etch a reticle on. at the end of the day it was a $2300 scope so charging 16% of the price to change out the reticle doesn't sound that unreasonable. But lets be honest if it was my scope I would sell it and buy the 2014 and get the target knobs and zero stop.

As to doing research the NF webpage is almost completely unusable so good luck finding out all the information you need to or would like to.

Well Phil I will tell you this. Before they changed their web page they did not have any documentation on the mil or MOA size of any reticles. Now they have some not all. I have done web design before and it is incredibly easy to add a link to a PDF file that has what you want. Why not give your customers all the information? It is not like they do not have this info. When you buy a scope this information comes with it. So why not make it available to your potential customers?

I am for giving your customers the info so they can make their own choice.

Their new page is better but it is still not 100% yet. It is if you use obama math.

Can't help but feel you have some sort of beef with them, that has you criticizing.
They have had all there reticle specifications and details on the old site as well as new site. All you had to do and still have to do is click on Reticle and/or Downloads. And they have been downloadable in PDF forum for no less then a decade and updated every year or two.
But we all have our own opinions !

Well Philip I do not have any beef with them at all. So why have a potential customer have to search for a download section when a link is just so easy?

Many do not have a tech sheet with them. Why not just make a link. It is very easy to do.

Edit
Parts are now swapped.
As stated I have a web development background. There are many ways to skin a cat most are wrong. I have found that out the hard way. Back in the day where servers were small and internet speeds slow there were very good reasons not to have links for those spec sheets. Today there is not a single reason to leave them out.

End Edit
