Nightforce Ranging Ring Setting

Nightforce list 22x,R) as the setting for calibrated distance spacing on the reticle. I have a pair of 8-32xBR scopes with NP-R2 reticles.

My question is, what would the error be in the MOA spacing on the NP-R2 reticle for powers of magnification outside of the 'R' 22x setting.

If I zoom from say 22x to 32x what errors in MOA would I have?

I have sent an email off to Nightforce asking the same question and when I get a reply I'll post it here.

Its important to know if the reticle graduations can be used to make accurate,as listed in manual) sight adjustments within the full zoom range and not just at the 'R' setting.

This is why we buy Nightforce scopes they dont only make great products but they back it up with customer service! Below is the response I received explaining how to calculate the error/difference from 22x,'R'). The example refers to the elevation which is graduated at 2MOA intervals on the reticle.

Ian,

The conversion is this; calibrated power,22) divided by the operating power,32) will give you true value times the holdover. So 22 divided by 32 equals .6875 times 2 for the NP-R2 reticle comes out to be 1.375 MOA holdover for each line.

I hope this helps.

Thank you

Any reticle that's located in the 2nd focal plane will change subtension proportionally, inversely) with the magnification, assuming the power ring is calibrated properly--my research with several cheaper scopes shows that they're usually quite close.
