Nightforce NXS vs BR

I have been going to an informal fun shoot several times a year during the winter....all score on bulls and animal targets. Seeing your bullet holes would be a BIG PLUS. I have been shooting my Dashers, 6-47L's, 6.5 WSSM .. etc...over the years with good success. I was thinking about shooting my 338 EDGE for a change just for fun.... and to be "different"!! Braked Rem 700 with a McMillan A5 stock. It currently has a 5.5-22 x 56 NSX and is awesome, but was thinking about tossing my spare 12-42x BR on it to aid in seeing the bullet holes. My concern is with the durability of the BR models. Are they put together as well and as sturdy as the NSX's??

Thanks,
Tod

When the fixed 42x first came out I was told it was a "rimfire only" scope by another shooter, so I emailed Nightforce to ask if it could handle the recoil of a 30BR.

Nightforce responded that all of their scopes were designed to handle the recoil of "any shoulder fired rifle cartridge".

The Nighforce BR has been mounted on many 50 BMG with a clamshell brake. It is one of a few models or brands of scopes that will hold up on one. Matt

New dilemma....BR model only gives me .015 clearance between the bell and the BBL....about the thickness of 4 sheets of good grade typing paper.

Am I asking for trouble? Is there that much whip in the BBL or flex in the scope tube to make contact?

Just sand a little off of each ;)

Honestly though, that is a conundrum, hopefully someone more experienced will chime in.

No. Mount it and shoot it,;)
