Nightforce Glass Question

I have 3 SHVs and the glass is very good. Honestly I’m not sure the human eye can detect any real difference between the SHV and the Competition F-Class scopes I have.

Uh, I can see a little improvement between NXS/SHV glass and NF's "ED" glass (Competition, ATACR, etc.) I'm not saying it is night and day, but it noticeable. More of a slightly "brighter, clearer" picture than anything else. Both are very sharp.

100% agree with this. While NXS/SHV halls isn't bad; ATACR/Comp glass is very good. Definitely noticable difference.

Biggest difference I see with ED glass is that color does not wash out at distance like non ED glass does. It really shows up looking at clay pigeons at 1000 yds.

I will pose another question.
NF says it is the same glass in SHV and NXS and the opinions vary on that. If one were to buy both a SHV and NXS from current inventory would the comparison still be accurate? After all, as far as I know there are not any focal equivalents between them. Also, doesn't the overall construction (IE tubes, erectors, focus and parallax adjustments) have effects on just how the glass is going to be able to pass its abilities to ones eye?
I own a few NXS, Competition, ATACR and even NX8 scopes but no SHV. Even among the 12 NXS scopes I owned (varying birthdays) at one time there were some I liked better than others. This has been especially true in the area of ease of getting correct parallax. My big knock on the ATAC-R has always been finicky parallax.

Your always going to have different opinions when two different eyes look through the same optic.
I have NF Comp and Sightron SIII and for my eyes there is very little difference. I like them both and for 1000yds
in leaning on the SIII 10-50x60 over the NF Comp....just my eyes and how they interpret glass and conditions.....conditions like
we have a distance. ( Mirage and other environment induced conditions )

We all stress over lot numbers for gullets, powder, brass and (most of all) 22LR match ammo because of even minor lot to lot differences. I've always felt those same types of differences showed up in riflescopes as well. After all, barrels are different one to the next.

No and not even close to a competition.

I agree. But in order to tell IMO, you have to have them side by side. Sometimes you don't think glass
can get much/any better then you pick up a different scope and it blows your mind. The HD5 from Leupold
has some amazing glass IMO. Better than my NXSs.
Is the glass good enough for what you do? That's all that matters really....
Good luck

My NF comp Definitely has better glass than the nxs scopes I’ve had and the shv scopes I’ve looked though. They really aren’t comparable. If the shv glass was used to 50 magnification it would be easily seen. As far as the nxs vs the shv I can’t see much difference. To my eyes my nf comp has better glass than my March highmasters and my Khales 1050,
but I still haven’t sold the khales.
