Nightforce ELR

The wife and I are all signed up. I look forward to seeing you again this year moondog!

Not a PRS shooter but wondering where the event is held now.
I know it got started at Q Creek Ranch.

I shot the Q Creek location 4 times. What a Ranch that is! It's held at the Tillard Ranch now just east of Casper. More rolling hills, located between 2 big wind farms just to keep it interesting.

@moondog @FeMan

What is the course of fire like? Or, what distances are shot? Do you have to range the targets or are they known distance? What cartridge are most shooting? Is it big stuff or are there a lot of 6.5's?

All known distances, If I remember from last year, the Average distance was 1400?
Some closer, some further. 300NM won last year, 6.5s were out, 7mms. Practice.

Thanks. I have been looking online for how the team works. It is 2 man, but I haven't found anything that describes it. Do you know if both members shoot?

As far as rifles, most shoot 30-cals and the 300 Norma seems to be the most common. I have shot a 284 Win and 6.5 CM. The 184 and 156 have pretty good BCs and you need to get to the heavy 30-cals to have a BC advantage. And then you have a lot more recoil and torque to deal with which makes spotting impacts harder. I tried the 300 Norma here at home and felt that for me, it would not improve my score. This year I will be shooting the 6.5 PRC as a team with a buddy.

Each stage has 3 or 4 targets and is timed. Each competitor has two attempts at each target and gets 2 pts for a first-round impact and 1 point for a second round impact. In the Teams category, you get 50% more time and both shooters must engage each target. You are allowed to spot for each other and shoot in sequence with shooter 1 engaging target one and then shooter two, then you move to target two.

Hope that helps.

Been to Q Creek several times and know Tad.
It is definitely a fantastic place. I have shot prairie dogs around d Casper a few times and the county down toward Glenrock is, as most of WY, beautiful.
I own a 338LM and a 300NM IMP but not an ELR competitor. Just like to stretch them out when I can.
