Nightforce DDR2 reticle

I'm just curious - who uses this, and what's it for? It seems like a Benchrest/prone reticle, but I can't imagine any F-Class or BR shooters would use the hold-over vs dialing the elevation in.

Does anyone use the hashes and second dot? What for?

I use it on my 6mm ackley chuck shooting gun 425 zero. 451 next . 463 ...499... 523... 545. Beyond that I use the clicks.

On the Manatee 1000 yard IBS Style shoots , you sight in on a bank about 20 yards behind the target. I could see using something below the center dot and figuring out the drop difference to the target up front. Once known, it would be a good sight-in source of information.

I have had good sucess utilizing this reticle. I use the lower dot after 300 yds , requires less clicks in the gun and covers less on the longer targest. I use the heavy horizontal extended lines as aiming points holding off at long range. Works very well for me and leaves the center area open and uncluttered to view the target.

It is a "new" version of the NP-2DD which is about the single most popular reticle on the F class line, and no, nobody that I know uses the reticle for hold overs.

I have 4 NF, (3)NP-2DD and (1)DDR2

The stuff below the center dot usually never gets used, frankly, I never notice it.

Hashes, yes. Under low lighting condition such as the first match of the morning on an overcast day, it is sometimes possible to "lose" the aiming dot against the dark background of the target black. The heavier horizontal bars are helpful to keep track of the dot.

As far as the 2nd dot, I have no idea what 2nd dot you're talking about .

I find the hashes and second dot pretty much useless when it comes to know distances and competition targets where you already know the measurements of the rings, I'm sure it have a purpose but Ill be damed if I know what it is.

I haven't shot one but The NP-2DD seems like a buyer otpito. I like the tapered lines, still not sure what the second dot is for on that one either.

the hash marks really don't make sense on the Competition if I'm dial up too 55 and marks are set for 40 power your estimating drop anyway.

now if the second 3 MOA dot translates into something more relevant at 55power maybe would be helpful, maybe it does, I'm not a number cruncher Somone one would have to give me a lesson.

Danny Biggs once wrote that the second dot on the NP-2DD was good for shooting beyond 1000 yards. It is smaller and it gains you about 4 MOA if I recall correctly (I own 3 of them and I don't know, shows you how much I use it)

That's pretty much my take, I don't know because I never use it. Maybe I'll give it a go and see if it works for the jump from 900-1000 but my data doesn't jive with 3MOA but at 55 power it may.
