Nightforce Comps opinions?

Yes. If you decide to upgrade to a Comp it should be for other reasons.
Like side focus, different reticle, weight, larger range of adjustment, etc? But I’m not gonna gain a significant amount in terms of cutting mirage or seeing bullet holes at 600 in ideal conditions. I love side focus, but I’d want the same 2dd reticle which I see they have. Never needed more elevation. So, for a little better glass and side focus in my case it’s double the price.

I wish I had a store to look through a few. Thanks!

Correct, though Comps do not have much adjustment compared to an NXS. I don't view that as a major defect, however, because if mounted in the correct position, so as to leave you with all elev. adjustment available, the Comp has more than enough for shooting out to 1,000 yards with anything I shoot.

Side-focus is nice but not a big deal. AO works fine for BR or F-class, where you are seldom, if ever, changing your focus and you have plenty of time to do that in between your scoring shots.

I guess if I were you I would not upgrade to a Comp unless you just want the higher magnification. I enjoy it, but I'm not sure it makes me shoot any better. It is nice for seeing holes at times, though useless at 600 yds.

NF has found a way to make scopes with very user friendly glass. They do not have some of the weird issues. I can in no way fault their optical quality. Even their older models are still very good optically.

What gets me with the particular company that test their scopes back and say they are fine totally discredits the scope checker method of testing. Had a bad one and currently still own a good one, till it goes bad, lol.

I will say, when helping develop a scope checker we found no joint was reliable. It had to be a one piece mount. A couple ten thous of shift showed up big on target. Scope tubes are not perfect either. Even those adjustable mounts are not ideal. Bottom line... Holding a scope on v blocks after smacking it by hand is laughable. It would have to move a mile to see it. I hate to say it but I cant help it.

This past weekend at the Manatee Florida IBS Championship my beloved NR BR scope crapped out. Totally lost zero in HG and I did a DQ. That is pretty unusual for a BR Nightforce.

Next day I finished in HG with a Nightforce Comp. and no issues. My BR is boxed with the RMA # to be shipped out in the morning.

It’s funny because now I know why some people back in the day were so religious about smacking their scopes. They’d make adjustments on a turret and then smack the scope repeatedly with their thumb. After seeing test results with scopes that like to jump a little then settle after each adjustment, it makes sense why they did it back then. They were aware of it even though they couldn’t really see it outside of holes in the target.

Needless to say, I now smack the turrets on all my scopes repeatedly after making adjustments. Lol

Optically what did your eyes notice?

Nothing unusual. Sharp and clear. Just hitting so far off I went a long time not seeing the impact. Once I saw it, since it was on a perfect rest. I just dialed to the impact point to be right on.

Unfortunately just a few shots later and it was gone again and again. Optically it was always crisp.

Noticeable sharper/clearer?
