Folks, I am looking at the NF competition scope to shoot 600 and 1000 yard BR, Can I get opinions on quality, price, the good and the bad?

I appreciate your time,

Ron Tilley

Currently using the 15-55 DDR2. I will not be selling it
any time soon. I have nothing bad to say about mine.
I also have a Vortex GE and a nice scope for my short
course rifles. I will be looking to pick up another NF comp
in the near future for the next build.....Just shot the Ridgway
1000 yard VBR in pouring rain. Glass did it's job to see thru
the soup. Of the 120 plus shooters attending, a good many
of them had the NF mounted up.

Had one, sold it. Not because I had any issues with it as it worked fine. You will see many of them on the line.

Opinions on a scope to shoot 600/1000 by comparison to NF Comp based on weight and cost considerations:
-I prefer the NF BR 12-42 over the comp.
-My choice for a good BR scope for about 1K less is Sightron SIII
-My Choice over NF Comp for the same price range is Sightron SVSSED with superfine focus and ED glass
-Next level would be March HM scopes or even a Kahles
-Top would be Valdada 52x or 60x

The scopes above range from $1100-$3400. They are all good scopes in my opinion. Weight and cost all have their place. I didn't mention Vortex GE by comparison as it didn't work for my eyes.

I have nothing bad to say about the Competition scope other than I think it is over-priced due to their marketing rather than what it should be. Doing a side by side comparison, with other people, we found the glass quality to be no different than the BR 12-42 and that image was preferred over the Comp - likely due to the better light gathering of the larger objective on the BR scope.

I wouldn't pay full price for one. I wouldn't pass one up if it was a great deal either.
Thank you for replying.

Yes look thru some maybe at a match if someone is willing to let you adjust to your eyes, maybe after the match.. the GE 15x60 was not for my eyes but I have diabetes, the 2 best scopes I have had that fit my eyes well 12x42 NF BR FCHD, and the Trijicon tenmile 5x50 the tenmile was bright on a dull day, but a 12x42 NF BR is hard to beat for just good fun shooting, no side focus but the glass is good and it's a tank

i sold my kahles1050 and march highmasters in favor of the nightforce comp. it’s a decent weight scope with reliable tracking and return to 0. they had problems with them initially but nf customer service got they all straightened out from what i know of wether they admitted to the problem or not. i never had one before they came out with zero stop on them and won’t as i like their zero stop. the glass, to my eye ,was superior. i find myself using it as a long range spotting scope when i have a bench to sight off of. i think it done as well as the march highmasters as far as the mirage goes. the price is what it is. your not going to find anything much cheaper that is comparable except maybe a golden eagle but on high magn. they get pretty dark. i say buy one and if you don’t like it the resell valve on them is pretty good. sell it and move on.

I have two of these and was able to reach high master utilizing the NF Competition scopes. But like all optics you either have one that holds zero and tracks well...or not. In full disclosure I did let one of mine go to upgrade to a Schmidt Bender PMII which seems to cut the mirage at 1K a bit, at least to my eye.

that is not a valid comparison. the nf goes to 55x the sb to 25x..yes mirage will look better, but at half the magnification

So the S&B PMII is no comparison to the NF Competition? The magnification between 50 and 55 power would be negligible in regards to mirage. I have posted the specs below as it seems a little out of your grasp to obtain such hard to locate information....you don't have to click any links or anything!

what is the dot size on the PM2 the sport reticle, I searched can't find it, I think it's sfp just can't find the dot size

I'm getting the Delta, Nightforce comp, Terminator, and 2 bordens, when I win the lottery, def gettin the nf comp, in a few months then sell it as usual..

I haven't seen or heard that Nightforce has done anything to their Competition model to improve it in the last couple of years. I could be wrong, I did a search and didn't come up with anything. If Nightforce had I believe we would have read about it on here from the Deer Creek BR shooters. They are diligent about testing scopes thoroughly, anything new or improved.
The Competition's I've been behind I didn't quite care for, I didn't think they were worth the extra cost compared to my 12-42 BR. But these days I'm satisfied to shoot 1000 yard f class with my V.G.E.
There is some very good information in the archives on here from 2-4 years back on in depth testing of scopes holding zero and clarity.
