NightForce 8-32x or 12-42??

Good Afternoon All:

I'm in the process of having one of my rifles converted more into a LG configuration for 1000 yard BR shooting. I currently have an IOR 6-24X...that I'll be selling to fund the purchase of a new scope. I've been kicking around whether I should get the 8-32X BR NightForce or the 12-42X. I already have an 8-32X on another rifle and have been very pleased...but that rifle is more of a varmint rig. I'm wondering if I can use the whole 42X?? And, if I'll potentially run out of adjustments?? I ran some data on Exbal...looks like I need about 25 m.o.a come ups to reach 1K from a 100 yard zero with the estimates of my new round, 6.5mm-08 Ackley Improved or .260 Remington Improved with a 40 degree shoulder.) I have a 20 m.o.a one piece base already.

Any insight form those of you in the know would be greatly appreciated!! I'll apologize if I don't respond immediately to further questions...my wife, kids and I are leaving early in the morning for a weeks vacation...fishing.

Thanks in advance,

Wayne

Wanye, I have,2) 12 X 42 Nightforce DD reticle and I use 42 X sometimes when mirage is not running crazy but most of the time I leave it at 22 X where the range dot for 500 and 600 yds. is accurate. I shoot alot but I have no credentials as a BR competition shooter. Bill

My light and heavy 1000yd guns both started out with the 8X32 BR DD's.
They now wear 12X42's with the Davis booster.
I haven't taken them off 42 yet at 600 or 1000.

Thanks guys for the replies....I've used my 8-32x BR at 32 power shooting Pd's out to 850 yards. I didn't have any complaints...even with mirage. Guess perhaps I should seriously consider the 12-42X?

Thanks Again,

Wayne

Donovan:

Thanks for the info. I guess since I already have an 8-32x...I should move up to the 12-42x....that way I have options. Will have to get the reticle changed on the 8-32x...I've got the NP-1RR.....it's a very busy reticle...probably shouldn't have gotten that one...since I use a laser range finder anyway.

Thanks again,

Wayne

It never hurts to have that extra power just in case...
I've upgraded all mine to the 12x42 with the DD reticule,
except for a 12x42 Mil Dot I found in the safe on my 6mm Ackley the other day.
Coulda sworn I traded them all off a while ago........
