Nightforce 42 power

I never saw a 42x fixed. Saw a couple of 36x fixed. Never heard of a problem but I believe the newer scopes are better and changes might have fixed any problems. Matt

I've got a couple that are about 10-15 years old and have never had a problem. And they are used for ten to twelve a year.

Joe, they just came out with them not long ago. they are listed under comp. with the 55 power one's they 20.7 oz.i think they have a 44mm objective...... jim

Sorry Jim mist the fixed power part, just buy a benchrest model and have more versatility! Never had a problem going from 12 power to 42. they work. you guys keep trying all this new stuff, stick with what works.

I just bought a used one. I have shot it a couple trips not a lot yet. The eye relief is a little fussy and it's so crisp it kinda eye straining

I haven't seen anything to make me think it isn't holding poi
I've only got two range trips with it now
The eye relief and sight box isn't as easy as my March. Takes a second longer to get the sight picture. A person might get used to that or get it adjusted a little better than I have it now.
As it is now I can defiantly shoot the March faster

Tim, thanks i heard what i needed hear. I have a Valdada i think i will stick with it....... jim
Jim. I know about a half dozen guy's who have one and they really like them. I bought one in November, but I haven't used it in a match yet. I haven't heard any issues with the guy's who I've talked to that have used them. Wayne France who won the IBS SSOY used one all of last year. Mine weights exactly 21oz on my scale and I brought it to my local PO and it weighted exactly 21oz. I have 2 Valdada's at the house which I like very much. But them side by side with the Comp 42 and clarity wise with my eyesight I couldn't see any difference between the 2.

Jim, my problem is one eye and forced me left handed, i would have to be on a bench with all left handed people to set flags right next to righted handed set flags it isn't going to work. so i have to come out of the gun and get back in rapidly before i get caught. A small critical eye box don't lend it self to speed. The Valdada is easy to shoot, fast and is rock solid, so i give up power for shoot ability. Confidence in you equipment goes a long way..... jim

Confidence in your equipment is essential, so if your Valdada is working for you now there seems little benefit changing to the Nightforce. I have a 42 fixed Nightforce and have found the sight picture to be clear and fast to acquire. Like you I come out of the gun and back in and with the dot reticle I find it easy and fast to get back in. Had no problem with holding POI. If you are still tempted by the Nightforce take up the offer of trying one out - that will put your mind at rest one way or the other without risking your cash. Generally I rate the 42 fixed very high.

Jim if you are going to use your scope for benchrest shooting only its a great scope. They are Solid and reliable and the clearaty is outstanding. They are moving up in a big way in the benchrest world. I just got one and really like it. I also have Leupold and march scopes but i will give the nightforce 42 comp the edge when it comes to clearaty, and that's not just my opinion but also the opinions of other shooters that have compared them. Valdada is another nice scope but it only comes in 36 power. Some shooters are OK with that, me i like higher magnification. Gabe
