Night time squerril activity

Have been using a game cam for a few years now and have never had squerril activity at night . But this year have had pictures and videos of them at night time . In this one video you can see one briefly . You'll have to excuse me as I don't know how to get them on my iPad from the card . So I use my iPad camera to get them off my wife's desk top and as you will see and here am no the best at it . Also first time using video cam , will be investing in one with audio , on game cam that is , lol .
Anyone else have squerril said at night . Was wondering if this was normal or a sign of predator activity during daytime .

No, but i have one that has accessed my attic via a small hole near a utility...and that little pecker is up all night running about.

I've observed them more than a half hour after sundown still rummaging through the leaves for food. Maybe they slept in late that day.:D

Funny this topic came up...usually, when you see a squirrel at night it is a flying squirrel. They are almost totally nocturnal. Gray and fox squirrels are not, but they will move, as posted previously, a little after dark or very early in the am just before the sun comes up. I have heard people talk about seeing them on a bright full moon night, but I still believe they are seeing a flying squirrel.
I have a cabin in the mountains of Virginia and for the last four years I have worn out three different brands of trail cameras watching the bears and bobcats...I have looked a literally tens of thousands of trail cam pictures, day and night, not ever seeing one single {1} gray or fox squirrel at night. Not one. I also bowhunt here at home and keep about 6 cameras set up in and around bow season...not a single solitary gray at night here either {big surprise} although we do seem to have a lot more flying squirrels...but even here, you might catch a photo of one once a month. They are real small.
I also happen to be a coon hunter...and that is where this thread is funny to me. Coon hunters often blame squirrels for causing their dogs to tree slick {a tree with no animal in it.} This is an embarrassing fault of the dog, nothing more...but to hear most coon hunters tell it, squirrels are out all day and all night long, they exist just to drive dogs crazy. In fact, squirrels never sleep. Most of them really know better, but don't dare get on a coon hunting forum and post that squirrels don't move at night...they will run you off there for ruining the best excuse they have for poor dog performance.

Went back and watched the video , you may be right about the flying squerrils . They looked awful small . Will try to download a picture of them .

Those are flying squirrels on the pic. It took me a while analyzing my trail cam pics to figure out the "minions" that were all over the tree until I got a good pic of one spread out on a dark persimmon tree. Swear to God I thought I had Wood Sprites!

Little off topic. What's your favorite most durable trail cam?

Thanks, Paul

I have raised rescued squirrels(fox and cat) for a long time. When they get big enough I'll just leave all their doors open and let them leave on their own. I have noticed several times that some of them hadn't made it home yet several hours after dark. Yet they are in their boxes several hours before daylight.
I also thought that once they finally leave, they would take off to where ever and be gone. One of my children has stayed around the house for about 5 or 6 years now and has raised several litters here. I still hand feed her every day.

I have tried/owned them all, the best and longest lasting for me have been the Cuddeback IR. They always catch the animal and have a bear proof box available which I need for my land in Virginia. All the others either don't last but a full season or take hundreds of white out or black out photos. Very few of these with the Cuddebacks. Primos turned out to be the worst.
