Night Force SHV?

Really need some feedback on this series of NF. Having a tough time with the price of the NXS. Thanks.

I love my NF, but the SHV for me just doesn't do it I would buy Vortex in that price range or a Used NXS.

I have a couple of the 5-20 models and I really like them, the glass has good resolution,I can see my targets out to 850 yards no problem and the zero stop is simple and works excellent.

I have the SHV 5-20x56 and it is my best scope. You could not give me three vortex's for it.
Hands down the best scope in that price range. Great optics, Great controls. I think it's the best scope I have ever owned. I sold a Leupold VX6 4-24x52 It was poor optics compared to my nightforce SHV. I had a Vortex 6-24 Viper HSLR not even in the same class as the SHV..MY SHV compares optically to a 5.5-22 NXS the clicks are positive and repeatable but not quite as nice as the NXS's...My opinion and several guys I shoot with like my SHV and one guy actually bought one after shooting mine. It is in it's own class for the price. Probably as clear or clearer than Vortex's most expensive glass..I wish that was not so because Vortex has the features and reticle's I like but to my eyes and several other guys I shoot with their optics are poor quality.. I wish that would change.

Looked through a SHV for the first time a couple of days ago. Pretty good glass. However, too my eyes the eye relief was really critical.

I've recently put a shv F1 on my .22 and like it...not sure I love it. The glass is good. The turret has nice positive clicks and the parallax adjustment is great. Easy to focus and will focus down to 25 yards which is a plus on a .22. The zero stop is the easiest I've ever used. The downside is the eyebox is a little tight and it only has 5 mils per revolution. I've got a PST gen II ordered and am looking forward to comparing them side by side. It replaced a Bushnell ERS and the glass is definitely brighter than that.

I have an SHV and it's the 5X20X56. It has a lit reticle {maybe they all do???} and I will say that it is definitely not my best scope. I will also say that when I first got it I didn't think the glass was very good. I hunted with it right up until dark and I thought at that time that it should have took me a little later than it did. I even posted {maybe on a different forum, I don't remember} that the glass had pretty disappointing light gathering {or whatever we are calling it these days} quality.
In all fairness to the scope, I have to say that I tested it further and found that it performed as expected right up until dark if I adjusted both the power and the focus. I hunt with mine, so I played with it and found the best settings for low light conditions and marked the scope so I could dial it right in when I am on stand. It has always held it's zero, no problem, and I have it on a very light weight mountain rifle in 280AI. It adjusts easy, repeats well and the lit reticle has the ability to dim way on down so it doesn't affect your eyes adjusted to the dark.
It's not a Leica and it's not a Zeiss, but I am comfortable saying that you would have to go to one of those scopes to beat it, and then you are not beating it by much. Buy with confidence and good luck.

Mine is the 5-20x56 non illuminated. I also hunt with mine and I feel to my eyes that are poor it is maybe the best scope I ever had. It would hold it's own with my VX6 3-18 right up till dark. Mine always looks the same to me no matter what conditions are. fog, rain, snow, bright sun. it is always bright and clear. sharp. I have never had a eye relief problem if anything I would say mine is very forgiving there. Yea 10 moa a rev..But with the zero stop its not a big problem one I can live with for the optics. but as everything now days, I argue with a buddy the other day..when something is mass produced so a profit can be made. there is a manufacturing spec some where along the line and not everyone may be made equal. I understand quality control but there also has to be a tolerance as to what passes and what does not.
So I believe that it is possible to have one a little better than the next. I am sure they are all good.

I have three 5-20 SHV's on varmint rifles. Reason I bought 3 is I spend many hours looking through scopes while varmint shooting and I get no eye fatigue using these scopes. Also the ergonomics and reticle are excellent.

I just ordered my third 3-10x42 from Sport Optics. Promotion you have to call in about. $780.00 Shipped.

Recently bought (2) SHV 5x20 models for a couple hunting rigs - 284 Win and 243 Win - have (6) NXS models and (1) Competition Series scopes. Would not hesitate to purchase another SHV, clear glass, consistent MOA values and reasonably priced.

First time out with the 284 Win: 195gr Berger 55gr of RL22 yielded 2780fps, went out to 700yds. First shot low but the calculation was close enough to get on steel; dialed up 1 MOA and fired a couple more. Before we painted, checked MOA travel distance for the differing points of impact, yep, the scopes work and are perfect for many uses.

Again, everyone is a fan of one company or another but if you like Nightforce products you will not be disappointed with the purchase of a SHV rifle scope.

I have a 5-20x56.

Very impressive glass for the price class and even above. I own 3 VX6 leupolds and the NXS is very close if not as good as the three leupolds.

Very impressive scope for ~1200$
