Night Force Scopes,Customer Service)

I am a newbie to the wonderful, and expensive world of competitive shooting. I shouldn't go that far yet as I am just now putting everything together but it is coming, soon hopefully. But enough of that and on with the question at hand. First of all what scope would you purchase, not just recommend but spend your hard earned money on right now. The scope will be mounted on a Serbu BFG-50. I want to spend no more than 1500 and therefore have been leaning towards a NF 8-32X56 BR. I asked a very intelligent shooter at a shop about them and some random guy jumped in telling me that they are not worth the money and their customer service was lacking at best. Is there any truth to this or is he smoking crack? I have always been a Nikon Monarch guy and have 4 different ones and although I have never had a problem I am told they have excellent CS. If only they offered something in 30mm tube with 20x I wouldn't even shop around. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Chris

Night force has great customer service I think. I have never seen one go bad but I did send one back because I didn't like the reticle and wala they sent a new one just like that.I think that you get what you pay for with a Night Force.

I think Nightforce now has the best value for your dollar
before jumping into the higher money of a March, S & B, etc.

There is NO issues with their warranty.

I would consider the 12x42 BR over the 8x32 BR.

Chris, I own,3) Nightforce scopes.,2) 12-42 X 56 NXS with DD reticle and,1) 3.5-15 X 50 NXS with TMR reticle. I also own several MK IV Leupolds. The quality of both are very good but if I had to part with either of them the Leupolds would be on the first truck leaving. Just my opinion. Bill

I own a few NF's as well, all NP2DD's and never had the need to use customer service,
and hope I never will, because I don't want any of them out of my sight....
Most of the people that whine and cry about them, can't afford one anyways....
I also think that having the extra horse power is a plus when it's needed, as in the 12x42x56..........

I phoned NF over a dumb question about lighted reticles that wasn't explained in the owners book, I was told, sorry he's busy we,ll call ya back. I figured i'd hear from them MAYBE in a week,,, 4 min. later the phone rang, it was NF...
They were quick courtious and very helpfull.

And if your mounting a scope on a 50 cal.,like mine) you might wanna contact NF and see if the BR model you mentioned will stand up to a 50, The NXS will but i'm not sure about the BR.

My 50 has a fixed 10X Swarovski on top. Thinking of switching to a 24X Leup.

I spent my money on a NF 12x42 BR and only cried once paying the bill. It has brought a lot of smiles with club level match wins on several occasions. In my contacts with the factory they have been friendly and helpful on all occassions. Money well spent. Highly recommend the 12x42. You can always dial down the magnafication but can't dial it up. Most of the time mine is maxed out.

I'll through another thought in to it. Here's why.

The Serbu ain't no 1,000 yd BR rifle - unless yours is the pick of the litter, it's a 1 to 1.5 moa rifle.

For this, you don't need a 56 power scope - or even a 42 power scope - scopes with that much power will give you nothing at long ranges but a bucket full of mirage.

I have an AR-50 and I mounted a B&L 10x Tactical on it,not the Bushnell junk).

I bought the rifle for veeeeery long range shooting. It shoots around 5/8th" at 100yds with 750 A-Maxs, and ~1" with military pulls, the M-48s are spectacular!!).

I scoped it for long range shooting because busting up cinder blocks at the local sand pit is fun...

... for about 3 weeks - but the Oooh Ahhh factor wears off real quick. Then you start thinking about shooting across large canyons at boulders a mile away - maybe more.

With a Nightforce BR scope... the 40 to 50 MOA of total elevation will not take the rifle out very far... maybe 1300yds, IF you mount the scope so the 100yd zero is at the very bottom of the elevation.

I picked the B&L for a few reasons - one is that it has 148 MOA of total elevation. That, combined with a Barrett adjustable tilt base, means that my 100yd zero is 2 MOA off the bottom of the elevation range, and I have 146 MOA of "up", which will take the rifle out to 2700 yds. So far, I have shot it at 2,100 yds.

At very long ranges, the 10x will see all you need to, as you are not shooting benchrest.

If you have ever looked at something a mile away in the daytime with a high powered optic, you will pray for a lower power.

Just something to think about... in a thread where everyone says get the biggest scope you can find.

wvuredneck09. You might want to read the test in the weekly bulletin comparing the NF and the Sightron 8-32x56. If this article is of interest, see my ad under scopes for sale. BTW the Sightron is rated for a 50cal. Larry in western ky.

I have bought 5 or 6 Nightforce scopes and never had a problem. Benchrest & low magnification for 300 Win Mag and 460 Weatherby Mag - ZERO TROUBLE! As for customer service; just call them. They helped me sort out reticle choices and were very patient about it.

I had a problem with my 8-32X BR NightForce, several years back....had problems returning to zero. I sent it back to them. They had it for two days and sent it back to me second day air. They included a detailed explaination of what was wrong....a bad batch of bedding compound. They also put in a new battery...free of charge.

To contrast this experience. Prior to the NF...I had a Burris that went bad. Sent it back to Burris...took four months to get it sorted out.

I think NF's customer service is something other scope companies should strive for!! I think they're great.
