I was wondering if the Nightforce BR 12-43x56 scope with a 20 MOA rail can will be able to reach 1000 yards with a 308 Win. Or, is the 8-32x56 a better choice.

Nightforce's webiste says it has 40moa of internal elevation for the Benchrest model 12-42x and with a 20moa rail you get 60moa... So if you consult JBM's ballistic software for your intended load and day you can see if looks okay to you. I would guess that 60MOA of adjustment are enough. But if you don't thin so then why not a 30moa scope rail? That would give you 70MOA of adjustment that should be more then enough. http://www.eskimo.com/~jbm/ballistics/traj_basic/traj_basic.html

Well, you're correct I didn't explain it accuractely. All I meant was that the with the 20moa bases he would have 40 minutes of internal adjustment plus that of the base's adjustment in elevation. And I figured that 20moa would put his .308 on dead center at 100 yards. But that isn't necessarily true, 20moa might not put him dead center at 100 yards he might only 35moa of adjustment after 100yards. I should have explained that better as it does look like I added 20moa plus the 40moa of internal adjustment which is inaccurate all meant was that if 20moa was dead center at 100y he would have the full 40moa of internal adjust to reach out to 1000 yards.
That isn't how it works...
The 20MOA just lets you put your 100yd zero near the bottom of the elev. travel and have near 40MOA up...
the 12-42 would be pushing the limits, especially on a crooked factory gun that may require windage to zero, losing you elev. travel)
I would go 8-32, because you will be almost topped out at 1K which is NOT GOOD for precision work...
