Nice Pa Bear for a stranger

This story starts out tues morning of pa bear season.I was by myself. So i went to one of our LR spots just more or less to glass for deer season.I had my 300 rum set up so if i caught one in the hollow below me i felt safe taking that shot myself(500 yards)Was there about two hours when two older fellows showed up and we talked for about ten minutes. And low and behold.A bear crossed the gasline below us and i went for the gun.spun 5.5 minutes on the nikon and no shell in the gun.Ran to my jeep got the shells and the bear was gone.Told the two guys someone get on that gun. They thought i was joking.I convinced them i wasnt. One of them did.The bear crossed the creek and started up the other side.600,650,675,700,725 then stopped at 750 yards.I spun the clicks and he sent the 210 berger on the way. This was the outcome.341 POUNDS.And one very happy guy.And i didnt even know his name at the time....

Quite generous of you, Boyd! I'm in Erie County, not as many bears out my way. Looks like you had some decent hunting this year.

Not many get Pa. bears. It's quite a trophy and you "gave it away". Real interesting.

I got a 425 lb one in Centre Co. back in 1975. It still looks good mounted on the wall. Interesting decision you made and a good one if you are happy.

I have never met Boyd, but his generous reputation preceeds him. I have never "given away" a trophy like a bear, but I have put strangers on a long-range rifle for varmints, and there is a joy in watching someone "operate outside" what they moments before would consider impossible. Boyd, you are to be commended, and that new friend will pass that story along in his family history for years. I can see it now. "You grandpa once shot a bear at 750 yards with ONE SHOT!" Classis and classy.

SNERT, Did you really mean "classis" on your post. I would like to think that that our shooting comunity is better than that.

What could be better?

clas·sis
[klas-is]

noun, plural clas·ses [klas-eez]
1.
the organization of pastors and elders that governs a group of local churches; a presbytery.

2.
the group of churches governed by such an organization.

Mea Culpa...which in translation means loosely, "OOPS my fat finger hit "s" not "c".

Thank you for catching my mistake. It warms my heart that someone was reading what I said so carefully.

So for the record, I meant the story would be "classic" (as in one to be remembered fondly) and classy (as in the manner Mr. Heaton shared a shot of a lifetime).

I am off to practice "spell check"

Cheers,

Snert
(and if you are wondering, that is Hagar the Horrible's dog)
