NFA purchase (suppressor)

I believe you have to purchase from a class 3 dealer in your state. the shop in Wisconsin can transfer to a dealer in your state, then you can get the product, but its just quicker and easier and cheaper to get on from someone in your state. I went the route of a trust and its pretty simple. I haven't completed everything yet but the dealer I am working with seems to think it will only take about 3-5 months from the time I pay him.
Before you guys to upset about the previous stated wait times. i went the old fashioned method. The dealer was a "Richard" " ) and i waited 14 months for my can. I went through 5-6 people in the chain of command with both both federal and local BATF to finally get my can. That being said, even with the loooooong wait it;s was worth every second and every dime.
ATF has been doing a good job of greatly reducing the wait times for approval of Forms 1 and 4:

My last Form 1 (eFiled) was approved in 31 days. My last Form 4 (paper) was approved in 120 days. Going by that graph, the Form 4 wait has decreased even more since last summer.

I'm a lawyer who does trust work and let me tell you - - $130 is a bargain - - a big time bargain! Any decent lawyer who does trust work won't even open his briefcase for that.
You have to buy it from a Class III dealer in your home state. Wait times have come down of late. Talked to a man recently who got his in 4 months. My advice, buy from a reputable dealer, someone who has lots of experience and has been doing it for a long time.
I had my trust done by an online firm in my home state of North Carolina that has done hundreds if not thousands of them. 75 bucks and it took only a few days to get my legal document in the mail. A lawyer will charge you 4 times as much and you will get the exact same thing.
I own a .308 caliber silencer and a 22LR. Really a good investment for your hearing not to mention the fact that they are just plain cool. Hunting with silencers is now legal in most states as well.

That version is obviously out of date, but I've used the same trust for three additional suppressor purchases since, by going in and modifying Section A, which describes the items placed into the trust. IIRC, I paid $35 for the software at either Staples or WalMart. The 2nd & 3rd Form 4s required 6 months wait time, while this last one took only 4 months.
Have yet to try e-file - one SOT I've dealt with was reluctant to get set up for it, and gave several reasons why he didn't want to do it. Since then, I've heard several stories about the ATF's e-file website having problems, but have also heard of a couple of guys getting their form 4s back in 30 days using e-file. Am still waiting on a serial no. for my latest purchase, and so will look into doing the form 4 for it via e-file.
I had a neighbor & his wife over at my range a year ago, shooting rifles at 600yds on a rare warm day in February. I set her up at the bench with a custom M70 in 223 and had her put 10rds on a steel IPSC target, then let her try my M700 in 260 Improved 30* with a TBAC 30BA can attached. I still remember the smile on her face when she turned to me after firing the first shot out of the 260 - she really enjoyed shooting that bigger rifle with the can, and proceeded to shoot a better 5-shot group at 600 than I had produced. It was only as we were getting loaded up to leave the range that she told me that this was the first time she'd ever shot a rifle....

I think it is worth the money to hire an attorney in your state that deals with trusts and you might be able to find one that has done NFA trusts for a reasonable fee.

They only deal with residents of NC and the trust form supplied by them is written specifically for residents of NC. I supplied the names of everyone on the trust and was then sent in a email, my completed trust ready to be signed and notarized. Took it to a notary this morning, scanned all seven pages and sent it back to them. They do all the paperwork from here on out and will notify me when it's time to come pick up my new toy.
So far, it's been very simple and painless. According to the many reviews I've read, it will likely stay that way.

My advice is not to go the Trust route if you can get CLEO signature, both my cans are transferred to me, my SBR is on my Trust(new DB Sheriff won't sign), the silencer shop trust is tailor made for NFA items, it's what I used for my SBR, lastly hurry up, 41p is coming, which will shut trust down for NFA items

i used a form trust wrote buy an NFA dealer here in NC and have had no issues. The verbiage is no different than those that have paid way too much for a lawyer to write one...which all of those look awful similar to the quicken ones I looked at as well....
but wait times are down, which is getting me in the mood to order 30 and 45 cal cans soon! I have a .22lr, 5.56, and SBR on my trust now....figure a few more would be nice
