NF Scope Questions....

Hello guys,

What is the downside to using the less expensive (8-32x56) competition model NF scope vs the more expensive NXS model for strictly coyote/varmint hunting applications. I see that the paralax adjustments are on the objective instead of the side turret, but are there other important considerations I may be missing? Would the .125 MOA adjustments be a enough for hunting applications?

Thank you in advance for any help you may provide!
Ken

Power range is about all the downside you'll get...
The side PA is easier to deal with when your behind the rifle..
.125 is lots better than .250 as far as I'm concerned...

Thanks Preacher. Why are the competitions so much cheaper - is the glass the same?

Thanks again,
Ken

The BR model is more of a set & forget at one range kind of scope. But given it's weight I never understood how it became popular in BR.
The NXS is better in every aspect. Better turrets, side focus, 2oz lighter, more elevation adjustment, available in 1/8moa clicks also, and with zero-stop for 1/4moa clicks.
It's more versatile and therefore a better investment..

For hunting, you might shop for something just as good as an NXS -but a pound lighter.

The NXS is better in every aspect.

Many shooters, including some very accomplished F-Class, shooters, prefer the Benchrest model to the NXS. I'm not sure it's accurate to say the NXS is better in every aspect. It's heavier, for sure, and more expensive. Probably has more internal elevation adjustment. But "better" is subjective, and depends on the user and the user's needs. 8)

As to the OP, search on Google. This topic has been flogged hundreds of times on various shooting forums.

Fixed range = set & forget
F-Class is not hunting
There is nothing subjective about it really,, just go to the NF sight and compare every single parameter between them.
The ONLY attribute better about the BR model is cost(and for that reason). Everything else goes to the NXS.

OK, I'm now more confused guys. First of all, I was asking about the competition scope, not the BR. I see that the BR is more money, and am not interested. So.......is the 2014 competition 8-32x56 a scope that I would be happy with coyote hunting vs say the 4-24x52 vx6 Leupold??

Again, any help is appreciated.
Thank you,
Ken

There is no competition 8-32. The Comp is 15-55.

Some have claimed the BR to be clearer than the NXS because the NXS has one more lens in it. I have looked through both, but never side by side so I can't say that I found one clearer than the other.

Looks like I screwed up and had the BR and the competition mixed up - very sorry if I wasted your time guys. It appears that Mike's advice to search for a quality scope that is a pound lighter may be the way to go.

Thank you for the help guys,
Ken

I hate to burst your bubble BOhio, but the BR is HEAVIER than the NXS. Look at the NF website.
