NF Reticle Choice?

i may order a NF 12x42x56 for informal bullseye match s , local, 100 200 ,, 300 400 yrds. an possibly 500 Max ranges using a rifle in 6x47l cartridges...

what do you think the correct reticle would be to use that NF offers .. ?

Re: NF reticule ?

I have always preferred the NP2DD reticule for all my needs..
Set that center dot in a circle on a target and it just naturally seems to center..

Re: NF reticule ?

Reticle is both dependent on the specific game that you play and personal choice.

I have both the CH-3 and NP2DD. I prefer the CH-3, but it is not made any more.

I got the 12-42 NSX with CH-3 reticle, I think it's the best one for target shooting.

i 'll will check all of them.. i've seen the np 2 d d looks plain enough, didn't know whether i'd need more than that... i haven't seen the rest that have been suggested.. yet

thought of another question ... is it worth the extra money to get the side focus.. ?

It is much easier when laying prone.

I prefer the NP-R1 and NP-R2 although the new MOAR looks promising too. I use the markings to help refine correction for mirage and windage. It's also good for holdovers in between adjustments at long range.

I agree with the CH-3 !

I have sevreal nightforce scopes, both NXS ( side focus) and benchrest (front focus). For me the differnce in focus location is not a big deal. I shoot F-Class and once I have the focus adjusted i never touch it again for the most part, so I would say no the NXS if you are buying it just for the focus position is not worth the money.

I also feel that "MY" benchrest 12x42 scopes are a little clearer than the NXS scope, not by much thats for sure. As to reticle I always bought the NP-2R and until recently that was all I owned or wanted to. I purchased a rifle here on Accurate Shooter Classified last week and it came with a Nightforce 12x42 Benchrest scope on it. It also has the NP2DD reticle. Now having shot both I still prefer the NP-2R the best for f-Class shooting. Reticle is a personal choice you just need to go over to the Nightforce web-site and look at what they have. which ever you buy it better be the one "YOU" prefer as there is no way to change it without buying another scope.

Also you may want to think the adjustments with either the BR or NXS models. While the NXS does have a little more elevation to it, the BR is just fine for up to a 1,000 yards. Also for the most part NXS scopes have 1/4 clicks while all of the BR models are 1/8 click adjustment. I know that the NXS can be had with an 1/8 click, I have one and it was purchased over a year ago, but for me they have been pretty hard to find.

after a bunch of searching NF site i can see the new DDR reticale would perfect
but its not available on the benchrest model which leaves me with the NP2 DD
which most already recommended...
i guess when i get enough $ i'd go with it... pretty sure its model is the C 107
maybe with that new Comp NF coming out a real good used one may show up

thanks guys....

I have 3 Nightforce 12x42 Benchrest scopes with the Ch-1. I am not sure if you can get them anymore, but I really like the simple crosshair and the uncluttered view. It comes down to individual preferences. Ray

Of the 3 Nightforce scopes that I own I have 2 CH2 and 1 NP2DD. I find the NP2DD has a dot in the center which does not lend itself to shading with shifting winds. The CH models have a simple crosshair and can be shaded accurately, my recommendation is get a CH model. As for the NXS model, it has an additional set of optics which don't seem to be any problem, but not really necessary to a clear view. FWIW

If you are interested in Benchrest model then it narrows your choices down to 3. I prefer th CH-2 which is not offered in the BR models

yes... the BR model NP2 DD ... would be my choice in the NF

my 36T Weaver has a simular retical as ch2 you mention which is good also
.
;)

I have 5 different NF scopes. I can't remember which one has which reticle. I could care less...EXCEPT...my LR hunting rig......NP R1....Speed dials and Zero stop. All are must haves (for me) for a LR rig where you are constantly dialing to different yardages. As far as my main discipline...1K benchrest, and to a lesser degree....600 BR and "F" class..it makes no difference...my eye is naturally drawn to the center.
