NF NXS Illumination?

Hey I just got my first nightforce. Traded for a used one on here. I'm wondering if there is a way to adjust the illumination brightness. It seems to be set for a night vision or lowlight setting and isn't daytime visible. Or am I just dreaming if I think I'm going to get daytime visible illumination? Any comments or advice would be appreciated!

Yes it is adjustable, you have to remove the cap though .

Ok I will try that. I always figured the br models just had different settings that you could turn the external knob to. I will let you know if that's the way it is on the nxs also then.

I have several NF's. I adjusted the brightness on all of them. it is a PITA!! I kept on adjusting the brightness down, put the whole thing back together only to find out that nothing had changed. Musta taken apart and dialed a little bit more 10 more times with no discernible change in brightness. Then...all of a sudden.....POOF....no light at all. Tried to brighten up a touch...nothing. Finally I found "the spot".

I guess what I am trying to say is to turn it most of the way down on the first go around...nothing happens for the first 95% of the adjustment. In fact, start with the thing off. The amount of movement on the dial from full on to full off is less than 1/20th of a turn....VERY SENSITIVE.

They are WAY too bright when full on for any late night or early morning shooting. All you can see is the blinding, bright red crosshair. I turn mine down enough that you can not tell if it is on during the day. You can just barely tell it is on during twilight.

Good luck,
Tod

Ok good to know. I just tried taking the cap of the side focus off. It said in the owners manual to twist it counter clockwise but it won't come off. I think its a little bit older model obviously not much dif but no hs or zs. Did the older models come off the same way or is it a little more complicated than that? I see some tiny flathead screws but I wasn't about to mess with those. Or is it more likely that the thing is older and it hasn't been off in years and its just stuck on there? If its stuck on anybody got any good solutions where I won't mess up the finish?

Just turn it counter clockwise till it stops, then turn it some more. It is threaded (sealed) fairly "stiff". The little flat screws are what you need to turn to adjust the brightness, if I am not mistaken. They are under the battery. I only have one of the newer ZS + SD scopes, the rest are plain Jane NXS. When screwing the cap on for the final time just do the opposite of when you took it off..screw it CLOCKWISE till it stops (that wold be the paralex adjustmet) and then screw it some more. The caps are well sealed and are hard to turn.

That's an understatement....

You can adjust and hold the battery against the contacts...you don't have to button it up every time to check brightness.

Don't use a heavy hand with the screw adjustments, they are far from stout.

Best done at night because the brightness can dominate, and take what it gives you for day time use. Mine are all the older ones, no HS or ZS's.
