NF Competition 15-55x52

This is supposed to be the end all scope. Does anyone have any experience with this scope? I am very interested in how this scope handles low light conditions. Specifically, in a 100 yard indoor tunnel. I shoot BR at 50 yards. Mostly just groups, competing against myself. I will be satisfied when my five shot groups look like my one shot groups. I am currently using a Vortex Golden Eagle. I also have a Sightron SIII 10-50X 60 mm LRFCH. The SIII and the GE are about equally good scopes. Maybe a slight edge to the GE because of 60x vs 50x.

And a second question, what reticle do you use and why? I am thinking about either the plain cross hair or the cross hair with the center dot.

I would appreciate any insight about this scope.

Regards, Jim

I had both and still have the Vortex's The NF's went down the road. I think the 48 power HM. March is the best of them all..... jim

I have three NF Comps and all have gone back to NF for repair for tracking issues. Glass is great and I like the DDR-2 reticle. I will be testing them again in a couple weeks to see if the repaired scopes (NF said there was nothing wrong with them) are still holding zero.

Keep you GE. In my experience they are more reliable than the NF Comps.

My Night Force is throwing flyers at the 7 o clock position every third shot at the nine ring.
Need to do one more match to verify this, and its going back for repair.

Why do you think it's the scope? Have you tried others?

I would go with the Vortex. I had problems with my Nightforce and sent it back. The factory returned it and said it was within spec. I sold it with the proviso that it didn't work for me. Lost money in the process. I have not heard any complaints on the Vortex plus it has a lifetime guarantee.

Some of the early models had some problems. 2013 and 2014. When people sent them back, they said no problems, but they came back fixed. Vortex has the same warranty as Nightforce and eventually you are going to need it. I have seen alot fail, even the Golden Eagle. Matt

I will not be buying any more Nightforce scopes based on the problems 3 friends have had with poor warranty service. As in, scopes coming back the same way they were sent in for repair. Claiming to have been repaired. Not good for scopes in this price range. Just my personal experience to date. :);):(

I had a Leupold 8-5-25 LRT that stated throwing shots diagonally 2 7 o'clock in the 9 ring. Sent it back and heard the same story as NF, no defect noted. It's sitting on a varmint rig and will never be used in comp. again. Since I'm searching for another scope for a build now I'm learry about NF based on these reports.

Paul,
I thought the problem was, Nightforce was fixing the scopes and telling customers that nothing was wrong. Are you saying your friends have had Nightforce scopes returned from Nightforce stating they were repaired and they were not?

Mulligan, yes that is correct.

Two of my three were sent back last year. When they came back was told by NF they were inspected and nothing was found wrong. When I tested those two they were fixed. I just got my third one back and will test it soon. Was told the same thing about this one as well. All three will get tested and will see if the 1st two stayed solid through 2018. I suspect they did not.

Thanks for bringing this up OP and thanks to you guys who answered.

I would like to blame every single shot that ever went out of a group on the scope. However, I'm grudgingly willing to admit that I might have had some small input on a very, very tiny portion of them ;).

Regardless of who manufactured it, if you think your scope isn't tracking properly, the only way to be sure it's the scope is to test it against an internally fixed scope with a scope checker. If it is found to be tracking improperly, then you have to start with the manufacturer's warranty/repair department. Unfortunately, that can be a whole different story.
