next barrel on savage

I've got a savage 112 short action. Factory was a 22-250. I've got a new 6mmbr pac-nor 14 twist in the gun cabinet waiting for hunting season to get over with so I can install it. I've already got the urge to buy another barrel for it. I do alot of target shooting in the winter. I'm trying to decide which caliber. I've already got a sey of redding bushing dies. I'm wondering about any difference between the 6mmbr 14 twist barrel I already own and possibly a 8 twist??? My shooting will all be within 300 yds. How about some 22 caliber that can use the 6mmbr lapua brass. I'm just looking for another accurate target/varmint round. Time to start researching. Suggestions would be great!!! tootalloutdoors

I just looked at the pac-nor site and they list a 22br with a neck of .243, or .246.
Using the lapau 6mmbr brass what neck size would I want? Is the .243 a turn neck and the .246 a no turn? The no turn appeals to me. tootalloutdoors

.223 AI is a great performing catridage, just have to swap out the bolt head.

Same bolt head a 6.5x47 Lapua. 7-08 or straight .308 will be nice long lasting tubes.

RHINOUT!

Seeing as how you have the PAC-NOR in 14 twist, 6BR useing up to 70gr projectiles will work fine, and if you want a different cal, 30BR a 30 cal PAC-NOR 17 twist and the BIB 118gr. Means you have to neck up the 6BR cases, and the .22BR which you mentioned and with it and a neck of .246" i still think you would have to skim the necks so they came in at .244 loaded. Your projectile would be .224" so wall thickness will be .010" standard cases are usually about .012" to .0135" wall thickness so that would true them up nicely and you then use a .242" Bushing to give .002" neck tension.

O.K. It sounds like the .246 neck must be the no-turn. Perhaps if I wasn't so afraid of turning the necks I would jump right in with a ppc.either a 6 or a 22. Turning the necks can't be that dificult. tootalloutdoors
