newby needs help on ibs rule

My question is ibs rule says a barrel cannot be wider than 1.25 at or 5 inches in front of the reciever and no more that .9 at muzzel on a 29 inch barrel. However my barrel is 22 inches long and 1.013 at the muzzle as the barrel taperes farther you go to 29 inches is my barrel legal. Pulling my little bit of hair out. Thanks in advance for any help

My quick math says according to the rule book the muzzle should be 1.002". I do not know if they give any allowance like they do in weight. The only time you will get measured is if you shoot a record. Or win or place in an agg....and then someone would have to file a protest with the referees over that 0.011".

Depending on where the taper starts at the receiver or 5" ahead of the receiver I come up with a max dia of .984" to 1.002".

The way I interpret the rule, A 29" bbl with a 1.25 dia. straight section, 5"long in front of boltface, then a straight taper to .9" dia. @ muzzle.>> >>1.25-.9= 0.35" taper in 24"(29-5) or 0.35/24= 0.015" taper per inch x 7"=.105 +.9=1.005"

Thank you for all your help guys im just starting in this adventure and want to thank everyone on the site for the great information that has been posted. Guess I have to start over on a build if i want to do it right.

just put your barrel in a lathe and turn it down to 1.000" af the muzzle, takes a few minutes, the slower you go the less stress you get...

I didn't mean to turn it down just at the muzzle, but turn it down to another contour that fits within the rules.

Your barrel cannot be over .900" at the muzzle with a length of 29" I do believe. So if your barrel is shorter than that the diameter is going to be larger. You can use a HV contour barrel in all short range BR classes, if you can make weight with them.

if you are going to the manatee match next month they will have a ref to talk to about the rifle [and scale set up to weigh]

If you go to BRC. and click on the IBS logo, go to down load the rules. and at the end it will have the barrel tapers and sizes for point blank..... jim

Just me, but I wish we could do away with the barrel profile rule and the deal about the angle of the bottom of the butt stock.

Surely there is some less restrictive way to do this? We need to be very careful that we do not legislate ourselves into extinction.
