Newbie Questions?

I am looking at getting into some 600 - 1000YD bench rest and f-class for a fun,not serious competition) and am looking at a 12 series Varmit from Savage . This will also be my first foray into reloading. Would a 6BRX be worth it or should I stick with a factory 6BR gun? Also what kind of barrel length should a person be looking at? Does Remington offer anything in the 6BR? My other choice was going with a .308.

Thanks

Savage's 6br is in a flat bottomed stock for shooting off rests. This is for benchrest / F-Class open shooting. Savages 308 F-T/R & Palma gun are more position type stocks and would shoot off a bi-pod putting you in F-T/R class.

Alot depends on where you live and what type of matches are common in your area. I'm an NRA shooter so I would go the F-T/R route if I was looking to keep my shooting casual. Your shooting is as 'competitive' as you chose to make it. Look at it as formalized shooting.
