Newbie Load Observations

I've finally been able to spend enough time with my New 6BR,Rem 700, Hart 8") to work up some decent loads. Everything I've tried has come from this board. Here are some of my results for your comment:

75 Gr Hornady is a ton of bang for the buck. It has shot pretty good with everything I've tried. A warm load of IMR 4895 has been the best but a warm load of Benchmark has been right up there. Varget has worked pretty good. Hard to screw this one up

80 Gr Fowler. Scary accurate. Likes it warm and hard into the lands. I'm using Benchmark. It would be fun to see what a good shooter with a 36 power scope could do with this.

105 Gr Lapua. Can't get it to shoot no matter what I try. RL15, Varget, IMR 4895, and even VV550. Off the lands, at the lands, in the lands. I've used CCI450 exclusively and I know the gun will shoot because of the above two loads. These bullets are beautifully made. Big disappointment as I wanted to give them a go at 1000 yds.

What bullet would you recommend that I try next for Long range? Would experimenting with primers be worthwhile?

Tim,
Try the 107 SMK they might shoot in an 8twist. The 90 Laupa will shoot fine at 1000 also Randy Robinette makes a flat base bullet 108 grain bullet that shoots like a house of fire out of an 8 twist.

The 90 Laupas will be easier and faster to find than the BIB Bullet. I have some 108's on order from Randy. If you would like I will send you some to test.

I sure would like to try some of the 108's. Would you have any use for some of my Fowlers or 105 Lapua's?

Tim,
We can do some kind of swap. I do not know how long it will take Randy to get to my order, it should not be too long.

Chuck

The 105gr Scenars shoot great in my 1:8 PacNor, and great in Jason's 1:8" Broughton.

However, they did not perform well in Jackie Schmidt's Krieger-barreled Rail Gun during the tests he did for us. These Lapua bullets have a smaller diameter than the Bergers or Sierras by about .0005,five ten-thousandths). It's our theory that the .236" spec'd bore in the Krieger was just too big for the Lapuas. Jackie DID have excellent results with the Berger 105 VLDs.

Suggest you try the Berger 105 VLDs, and then the Sierra 107s in that order.
