Newbie elevation questions.

When mounting and bore sighting a new scope, do you set the elevation knob in the middle of its range or dial it all the way down to give you maximum elevation when needed? The guy that mounted and bore sighted my scope had me off seven inches high and right at 100 yards. I wonder if he did it properly. Thanks.

No. You cannot know how much adjustment range you will have, up/down and left/right until *after* it is mounted.

Ideally, you'd use very little windage to get centered, which means your receiver, base, and rings are nicely aligned. But a few MOA to one side or the other is normal, and not a big deal.

The only way to obtain maximum usable elevation adjustment range is to tilt the scope downward, but not too much. This can be done with either a tapered base or tapered rings.

Where you set the adjustment knobs before mounting a scope is completely irrelevant.
