NEW WORLD RECORD LV group

P1ZombieKiller

Silver $$ Contributor
My buddy Mike Stinnett was just confirmed as having beat the world record LV group at 100 yards in a registered match. Some said the old record could never be beat (previous record was .009"). His group measured .0077" and he did it with his 30 caliber.

A tremendous accomplishment. As soon as I can get a pic of the world record target, I will post it.

Quite frankly, I don't know how those guys do it>>>NEVERTHELESS it IS being done! It is obvious that they have excellent rifles, excellent scopes, REALLY know how to reload, go to extreme lengths and it goes without saying, they KNOW how to shoot. What these guys accomplish is incredible!! GREAT SHOOTING!!

Mike shoots 1,000's of rounds a year... I have sat on the bench right next to him several times, and he has rattled off 5 shots down range in a matter of 2-3 seconds, and the groups have measured in the .1's
The guy can flat shoot. His wind reading abilities are mind blowing. When he gets the right condition, he is fast. REALLY FAST....

That is Awesome!!! Congrats Mike!! Wes I will be looking forward to seeing if I can even see .008 , that is just plain ming boggling to me!! again Well Done Mike!
Wayne.

Truely a stunning feat of shooting. Congrats Mike. I'll bet the "Smiths" get a boatload of requests for 30PPC's shortley.........

...don't bother with a picture of the target, I think we can all imagine a 5/16" hole in a target...I know I can, it's what my first shot always looks like (but never my first two shots...much less 5)!

I'm not sure my 1 shot group would measure that small.

Was he shooting a 30BR, 30PPC or something else?

The X-Man

I think it is listed as a 30ppc, but I know Mike uses a grendal case to form his brass. I have heard some people call this a 30 major. But it was a .308 bullet and I have been saying for years that a 30 can be just as accurate as a 6mm, especially when there is switchy winds involved.

Actually the 6PPC has not been dethroned as it didn't hold the old record. That would be, I believe, the .008 group shot by one of the McMillian bros and it was shot with a .222

He shoots a 30 ppc, 4198. BIB bullets Speedy blue printed Panda, jewell trigger, Larson Stock Leo Scope, Farley rest, krieger barrel.

Equipment Listing
Several have asked so here is my equipment listing - no Pics as the targets have not been returned yet.

The hardware build actually started in 2008 with the goal of building two identical Benchrest rifles which could be used for both group and score. The idea was to shoot 6PPC and a 30 Cal without a base rifle change.

Hardware Description:
Action: Kelby Panda “Speedy Shorty” with Solid Bolt – PPC Bold Face. Kelby was asked to build several actions which were identical with the intent to eliminate any variance in head space between the two new rifles. This helped me use a single setup on sizing dies for both rifles and ammo is interchangeable. Both actions were sent to “SPEEDY” to be blue printed along with new Jewell Triggers which were matched to the actions.

Stock: Larson (including action bedding).

Barrels: Krieger was selected for the barrels and after discussions with Randy Robinett (BIB Bullets) a 17 twist was identified as the correct safe solution. Ralph Stewart has cut all my chambers using a custom designed reamer. Again the concern was consistent headspace and Ralph has been able to keep my barrels within .0002 variance.

Scope: Leopold 45X Competition

Rings: Kelby Single Screw Tall.

Flags: Graham Wind Flags (large).

Tuner: Ralph Stewart

Front Rest: Farley

Bags: Micro Fiber

Brass: Lapua (Base case is 6.5 Grendel)

Bullets: Randy Robinett (BIB) 30 Cal. 114gr. 10 Ogive (my secondary – primary is 112 gr.)

Powder: H4198 – Weight?? (You can’t that that much in a 30PPC!) Velocity – 2980 FPS

Reamer: 30 STEWART (I just call it a 30PPC as that is what everyone expects, but it is in fact a custom design and Ralph deserves about 99% of the credit).

Dies: Sizing – Hornady Custom Shot / Seating - Ralph Stewart Custom

From a fella that appreciates accuracy, CONGRATULATIONS to Mike! Can't wait to see the target pic!
