New Winchester 223 brass ?

Nothing wrong with Winchester brass. Some just like to buy more expensive brass, they all do the job, just fine for the average reloader and then some. Winchester, like Reminton and other company brass makers has been used in ammunition for years and it hits paper and game just fine and brings home fun on paper and game for the freezers.

I've used it for many years. In my experience, it's more uniform than Remington.

My only complaint is that I would normally find a few cases that had uncorrectable defects such as folds in the neck and shoulder area in every bag of 100 cases. In some bags, as many as 5 defectives.

My favorite of recent years has been Hornaday, but they have not been available, at least as far as I could determine, for the last 2 years.

My Savage 12BVSS shoots in the 1's with Winchester brass with the aid of a Berger 52g FB. I'd say the brass is fine. Working on 22nd reloading on same 100 pcs.

My experience also. I use it for XTC and it is good for that application., I am currently working on 2000 pieces that are on their fourth reloading. I did get a few pieces that I culled to start with but no big deal, well worth what I paid for it.

I shot Winchester XTC for 15 years with good results. I'd visually inspect all cases for the defects others have mentioned then gently de-bur the flash hole, trim to length and chamfer the mouth. I'd load 80 gr SMKs for 600 slow fire in the virgin cases then move them to the 200/300 pile after one firing at 600. Learned this from a much better shooter.

IMO most brass can be made to shoot well, some just take more prep work than others. And for casual shooting, hunting, etc Winchester is fine.

Ive used a bunch of the older winchester brass in the blue bags, and liked it just fine. It was my choice if I didn't use Lapua. I have read that the new red bag brass is different, and many were bashing it. Is there any difference between the two or is this internet BS?

I bought some about a year ago and was surprised at how uniform they were with case wall thickness, .002 or less for the whole package. Necks were also within .0005. I usually only see that from Lapua.

Winchester is my favorite cheap brass if I can’t get LC.
Don’t abuse it and cull out a few funky cases if needed and you’ll be happy.

Is this good brass for reloading?
I was preparing for a friendly competition of my rifle vs my buddies rifle. I was shooting a Rem 40 XBR in 222. This target convinced me to use the Win brass for our friendly match.

Went to work for dupont in 82. Good outfit to work for. Olin got the contract around 85 and started cutting jobs and piling more work on you so they could make more money. Never was a big winchester fan. For a boss. The old L.C. stuff before 85 probably got checked more. They make it different now anyway. May be excellent I dont know. Doug
