New versus Used Scopes ?

Have purchased new and used scopes over the years for varmint rifles. Some of it has been nostalgia. Have bought the all-steel Weaver T-16, the Lyman Perma-Center 10X, or the Leupold 12X scopes.

But the price of used scopes seems to have gone up quite a bit lately. Have seen $300 to $500 price tags on some of them, so it ain't so obvious that it is a good deal to go used.

Especially since there are many fine new varmint scopes at close to the same prices or only $100 more.

At what price range for a used scope like the Weavers and Leupolds do you just say you will get a new Bushnell 4200 or a Sightron Big Sky instead ?

.

Hammer, the tipping point for me is around $200 for a Weaver T, and they are nearly always higher than that. It's been several years since I was able to buy one! For Leupolds, about $100 to $200 under new, depending on the scope. I always figure that Leupold will warranty them if I get a bad one.

Good shooting, Tom
