new to turning necks

I'm getting back into reloading one aspect I've never got into was turning the necks of the cases prior to reloading. I'm know trying to come up with accurate loads for my hunting rifles. Is turning the necks that important to accuracy? Also, if I get into it, whats the best all around neck turning tool? In terms of ease of use, price, and quality. Thanks Jeff Cam.

Ditto to what Winchester69 said: of no advantage when using a factory chamber. All you will be doing is weakening, by thinning) the case neck walls, leading to neck splits sooner than if they would have been loaded and fired "as is".

Whether you'll see any improvement or not turning necks is kind'a between you and the rifle. Usually it's a pretty small improvement in accuracy that can get lost in the noise with a factory barrel. I've talked to a few guys that saw improvements with their factory rifles when they started neck turning. It could've been all in their heads, but then, shooting accurately is mostly all in your head.

The best neck turner for the money is the K&M. In fact, just about any product that Ken Markle makes is a great value. If you're going to give it a try, just take off enough to clean up most of the way around the neck, but make sure that you do the entire neck. Do a few searches on this forum also to learn the right technique.

The original post stated "hunting rifles". No mention was made of using neck bushing dies, or any other methods of loading for precision shooting, benchrest rifles, etc. Sure, if weighing brass, primers, de-burring primer flash holes, inside taper neck reaming, squaring primer pockets, and outside neck turning, make you feel better, by all means "do it". It's your time and effort, and your purchase of $$$$$ tools and gadgets.

I feel that turning necks on an accurate hunting rifle is worth the effort for factory chambers as long as you don't thin the necks I.E.turn just enough to even up the necks. 80% of the outside. this evens up neck tension and really helps your vertical dispersion past 300yrds i've seen the results on targets.______treeman
