When I was shooting ftr I tried the Sinclair competition bipod with the fine vertical adjustment, I wouldn't try it. The tracking was horrible. If I was shooting ftr still I would go to the Seb joypod. I have a few friends that have one and it's a piece of art. Tracking and the weight is great for ftr. My ftr rifle was a savage 12 ftr with a Nightforce 12-42 Nxs. Another bipod would be a Dixie dupland or rempel just both are very heavy. Either one of these I see on here used. You probably wouldn't have a problem with weight if you are shooting a stock barrel just keep that in mind if you want to change your barrel in the future. Ps good luck finding a new bipod, I went to the dark side and started shooting F open hated using a bipod. The front rest is much better for me.

My buddies and I just use Harris bi-pods and we post a lot of expert and master level scores. It's unlikely you'll win many national or international level competitions with a Harris, but you'll definitely learn a lot as a beginner.

Bi-pod choice is more important with a .308 than with a .223. I've watched shooters put 60 in a row in the X ring at shorter ranges with a .223 Savage F-TR and a Harris bi-pod.

many thanks for the responses. i have heard the mystic bipod is very good but can't get them in uk or ireland anymore. anybody have one sitting in a cupboard i could buy and pay the postage.

In general, the Harris-type folding bipods are at the bottom rung of usability for competition but very good for practical use. The Sinclair bipods are a step up for competition but useless for any practical shooting (except maybe prairie dogs). Others, such as the SEB become even more expensive and specialized.

My Sinclair bipod cost about US$83 when I got it. I have no idea what that might cost in Ireland.

Rempels are rare and expensive in the British Isles. Evo Leisure which makes Tier-One products in Heckmondwike, northern England makes two superb Rempel-type models, a smaller one in aluminium or the super-wide (two-thirds metre wide footprint at its lowest setting 'Carbon' model. Talk to Osprey Rifles if interested in Tier-One bipods.

Brian Fox (Fox Firearms UK) used to import Mystics and is also the sole British Isles importer for the excellent SEB JoyPod.

Dolphin Precision Engineering in Lincolnshire makes a really good and wide carbon fibre bipod, the AB model which hasn't quite as wide a footprint as the Tier-One Carbon model at 640mm maximum, but is £100 cheaper and is very good value indeed. I'm currently range testing one against my own Tier-One Carbon in F-Open and have had excellent results with a 284 Win and 180s.

Hey Laurie
Sorry to revive this old thread.
Can you give us update as to which one out of above mentioned bipod do you like best?
I have Rempel’s, it’s super stable but heavy. I want to buy something lighter but don’t wanna be disappointed as I’ll be comparing it to Rempel’s.

Lighten your Remple by 11 ounces and be done. Jeff

OP stated in his initial post that he can't afford to buy new. My guess is that a Joypod was not suggested solely for reasons of cost, not performance.

Bill, Do you get any flexiness or bouncing with your carbon version? I am seriously thinking about getting one but the last carbon legged adjustable flexed vertically like crazy.
It does bounce a little but it is my body position 99% of the time or my rear bag has moved. I like it because I have less readjustment to do than with my Joy-Pod.
