New to 6ppc Help with Components

Just purchased my first 6pcc and am waiting on it to be shipped. Thought I’d go ahead and get components headed my way and need a little advise on what to order.

Bullets: I’m going to start with Barts. I have found both 68gr boatails and flatbase. Which one for 100-200 yards in a 14 twist?

Powder: I have the new 8208 on hand but nothing else that’s in that burn rate. Is it a waste of time to try it?

Primers: I have several thousand CCI 450s and Rem 7.5s. Same question. Am i wasting time trying these.

I realize it may take awhile to find what my gun likes I’m just looking for where to start.

Welcome to the PPC world. I suggest the following to start.
Go with the flat base Barts or Bergers
You can try the 8208XBR but try H322 or LT32. N133 is the powder of choice but sometimes it is finicky.
Buy some Federal 205's. Plain or match, it really make no difference.
Buy and read Tony's book.
Good Luck!

I suggest getting one powder ( LT-32 ) and work with it for a full load work up. Change bullets before the powder. The LT-32 is real easy to work with to get a good tune window and once you get comfortable with it you can play with the ton of different custom home spun bullets you will find out about once you jump into the abyss that IS the 6ppc...............Have Fun

Best Regards
Rick

FB or BT's will probably shoot about the same, but BT's are easier to load. I'll second LT 32. It has shot best in every PPC I have owned as well as 220 Beggs and 6 Beggs. It's not usually a good idea to get your loads from the internet for a number of good reasons, but you will probably find something good @ 28.3 - 28.5. Primers probably won't matter much as long as they are all the same. That being said I would suggest the 205's or CCI BR-4s. If you want to try another bullet you won't go wrong with Larry Moore's Hillbilly Bullets. There have probably been more UBR records set with Hillbillys than any other bullet maker.
BTW- where are you located?

Panda, Mcmillan Edge, Shillen 14 twist .262 neck. All new components. Gunsmith was Dan Dowling. I purchased from a member here and got a really fair price.
Located in Dunlap TN

That sounds nice. It should shoot good for you. Pictures? :)

My suggestion would be to get connected with someone in the area that has extensive match level experience and is willing to help you. That's about the fastest way to shortcut the process when you dive in to the PPC rabbit hole.

I believe you are smack in the middle of UBR country. Get in touch with @Greyfox and he can get you some details about matches.

I am very thankful for all the advice. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that people in the shooting sports are great at helping out newcomers as long as they aren’t know-it-alls. And short range bench rest seems to be above them all. I have received a lot of messages offering everything from advice to bullets sent to me for free and access to their private ranges. WOW..! Great bunch of guys. Thank you.
Troy id love to come over the mountain to Sparta and shoot sometime.

Regardless of how those other powders shoot, if you don't try N133 you will always be wondering if it won't yield better results, so may as well pick up a pound now and try it. Most the top competitors use if for a reason. Do the same with Federal 205 primers.

Jerry I have lt32,n133, a variety of primers and neck bushings etc to test with before you go buy a bunch of stuff that may not work. Give me a shout and we will set up a day to shoot.

You need lt32 and n133. Dont waste time or energy on anything else. And you need both because one will be better than the other on any given day

That's what I'm hearing from you guys with lots of experience, and I'm sure I'll get to that point. Right now I'm going to concentrate on getting my brass prepared, working on my shooting technique, reading my wind flags, and getting my bench setup consistent. When I'm more confident in these I'll be able to start fine tuning my loads for the conditions.
Right now if I had a out of tune load I wouldn't be able to pin point that as being the issue until I get some more of the basics down.
Don't get me wrong. I know being able to tune loads to the conditions is what separates a lot of shooters, but I just don't have the experience necessary to identify that as the issue.
I'm going to have a very steep learning curve going forward, and I appreciate all the help.
