New to 6BR

I just purchased a 6BR from a member of the forum. Having zero experience with this caliber I ordered Lapua brass, CCI450 primers, dies including a Forester micrometer seating die, and an assortment of bullets ranging from 77>107gr. Looking at data from this forum I decided to use Varget and began to work up some loads. The 105gr bullets showed promise as did the 107 gr. Looking at my supply of powder I realized that there was an 8lb jug of the Enduron 4166 just sitting there. No data was available for this powder and the 6BR so I elected to start with 28.8gr and a Lapua 77gr HPFB bullet. I sighted in with a Bosh&lomb Balvar 6-24 scope at 100yds. Using the point between >< the target diamonds I shot a group of three into .111" on Tuesday. I came back Wednesday and fired a five shot group into .223". I have shot groups under 3/8" occasionally with my 308's but never this small and with so little load development. I'm going to try this load at 200yds and chrono the load with a Magneto-speed next Monday or Tuesday. I am stoked/amazed/happy etc.

Sounds like you have it going. You might try some small seating depth changes and see what happens, but if you are grouping under .250 on a consistent basis you would be competitive at 600 yds. Shoot it over a chronograph and see what your speed and ES is.

You are gonna enjoy your BR. They are hard to beat.

I've found that you can pretty much duplicate the 4166 to Varget in some of my testing with this powder. So you may be able to increase the powder charge on up to 30.5 grains and still see great accuracy but do it in small increments and watch for pressure signs.

Roger,

30.5 gr Varget, 105 Scenars seated at .015 jam with Lapua Brass and CCI450's shoots .236" at 200 yards in my rifle. You will like the 6BR.

Ahhhh...... Another shooter infected by the "Diease" symptoms to follow.
Stage One: shooting little bitty groups at 100 yds. As the "Diease" progresses it infiltrates the brain causing the shooter to buy different bullet weights, powders and primers, trying all combinations inorder to obtain smaller and smaller groups.
Stage two: the "Diease" begins to impact judgement and expectation such as group size at longer ranges like 200 - 600 yds. Stage one is repeated along with a new sympton identified as "Newer, better updated reloading equipment". Slowly, the "Diease" works it's way into ones wallet.
Stage three: the "Diease" morphs into action causing the shooter to have delusions of grandure. He begins to thing things like " if I had another couple of feet per second the wind wouldn't effect my groups as much. "
Stage four: the "Diease" completely over takes the brain. The shooter believes he needs and can't live without a new rifle. "I need a Dasher or BRX or something"

Don't feel bad - woodchuckk shooters suffer from the same disease.

As I get ready to celebrate turning 73 in August I am just glad that shooting and riding (motorcycles) are still a part of my life. The "affliction" for both helps keep me young and looking forward to tomorrow.

AMEN! To the motorcycling and the rifles. I am also new to 6BR via a good local friend and just purchased a second that has already "been figured out". Two wonderful hobbies, shooting and riding. I'd like to add deer hunting to the theme though. Good luck and congrats on the upcoming B-Day! Ride safe and shoot straight!
