I'm a predator/varmint hunter who handloads and shoots several small bore calibers: 17AH, 17FB, 20VT, 204, etc.....

The rifle club I belong to is gearing up for monthly 600 yards matches. I'd like to participate, and would welcome some feedback on the best way to go about getting started.

I'm thinking about a Savage in 6BR and a quality Leupold or NF scope. Does this sound sensible? Other suggestions?

TIA. George

Excellent choice.....you will not be udergunned.....you will really learn how to shoot (and make good ammo)when competing at 600!!!...Roger

I also notice that the 6.5-284 appears to be popular?

It will offer no advantage at 600 yards versus the 6BR or BR Improved but would be better than the 6BR at 1000 Yards. At 600, it will just increase your costs but probably noy your scores.

Thanks.....I see that brass, bullets and of course powder would be more expensive. It's extremely unlikely that our range will ever be able to extend beyond 600 yds.....
