new to 6.5x47

Hi all,

I am going to turn my 6mmbr into a 6.5x47 when the 6mm barrel decides to give up the ghost. what I was after was what sort of neck diametres you guys use and what sort of chamber neck diametres you have cut. I was after just doing a clean up cut to remove the lumps and bumps. Also what sort of projectiles and powders you guys use.

Thanks for your opinions.

The 6.5x47 Lapua is rapidly becoming my favorite cartridge. I find it extremely accurate in 300 and 600 yard matches and real easy to load for.

My present chamber was cut with a PT&G no neck turn reamer, but I can't remember exactly what the chamber neck diameter measures. I can tell you that my fired case necks measure .293" and that the loaded case neck diameter with 123 gr. Scenar bullets measures right between .289" and .290". I'm using Redding neck bushing dies with their .288" TiN bushing on relatively new, less than five firings) Lapua brass.

I've settled on this load for excellent accuracy with acceptable velocity, extremely low SD and ES, and no apparent high pressure signs,at least in my barrel) -

123 gr Lapua Scenar seated .015" into the lands
37.5 gr. Re15
CCI BR4 primers

Chrono's @ 2990 MV over my Oehler 35 from my 28" barrel.

I think you'll really like this cartridge!

Thanks for the info guys,

Spotcheck, have you tried these new 123gnSMK, any thoughts because living in Australia leaves me with really very little else to use exept maybe Hornady.

Thanks guys keep it comming,

I haven't tried the 123 gr. SMK mostly because the Scenars shot so well from the beginning. I might try them if I have the time, along with the 130 gr. JLK's and 130 gr. Berger's, but I'd rather be shooting than experimenting :)

If you can get the 6.5x47 Lapua brass in Australia I'd suspect that you should also be able to get the Lapua Scenar bulllets, but I'm only speculating.

Hi all,

I was wondering what sort of loads you guys are using and how does the recoil compare to the 6mmbr.

Thanks in advance, if there is any other info you guys have on the 6.5x47 it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks again

Recoil will be a little heavier than the 6mmbr, but it's hardly noticable.

You should go to Robert Whitley's website for some excellent load information on the 6.5x47 and its 6mm variant. He's recently included information on the 6mm AR cartridge as well.
