New to .45-70 Government / Shiloh Sharps Rifle

If you will be shooting smokeless powder loads that are from a loading manual listed as trapdoor loads DO NOT PUT A WAD IN THE CASE. Loads from manuals use powders that will be bulk enough to function properly. IMR 4198 is a great powder with 300 gr jacketed bullets like the Sierra HP no matter what power level you want to load. Accurate 5744 works great with CAST bullets from light to heavy. It burns dirty but shot great for me. I mainly shoot black powder or Pyrodex Select with 500+ gr bullets in my Sharps.
My suggestion for using smokeless is to STICK WITH LOADS FROM THE POWDER OR BULLET COMPANIES MANUALS. Following some internet "expert" can get you killed.

Ed333---I also was using the Montana Bullet Works 535 gr--which of course are no longer available--you might take a look at this site--http://hunters-supply.com/shop/products_new.php?page=8
They sell a large selection of bullets--I bought a box of their 520 gr--they had consistent weights but I have not had a chance to test em in my rifle yet--
