New Stock Help

My Savage has a prone stock on it at the present time. I want to buy an MBR type stock and have been looking at Savage Shooters Supply 1000 yard MBR type stock. Anybody have any experience with the SSS 1000 yard stock. It is a long solid bottom action. Whose MBR stock would you use, I need it pretty quick.

Chuck,

A friend of mine has one on his Savage, and let me tell you it is nice! If I was a Savage shooter and in the market for an MBR type stock this is the way I would go.

Depends on what your doing with it. Them stocks have the inletting for the mag..so if you have a single shot...you would need to fill it...unless you like having an airpocket under your action.

Shehane MBR is what i went with for my upcomming 243 WSSM project. Major work is needed on these stocks as the recoil lug, front action screw, trigger guard relief needs to be done.

I plan on having it sent to Fred for a br/F-class rig, so I am not going to be working on the stock. Yes I know I have to pay more to finish it, but its what I wanted.

If I was going to work an finish a stock I would choose a McMillan probally. Also you might check out the Richard's micro-fit if you like finishing the work yourself.

Remember alot of custom stock makers don't inlet for Savage. McMillan, Shehane, Stockade do.

If you go to www.brownells.com they also have the out of the mold stock.

I can hook ya up with dealer price which would save ya some $$ if you let me know which of those ya want.

type in the search savage stocks.

I got their longrange benchrest pretty cheaply, out of the mold. Meaning ya stand and finish how you choose.

Let me know

I don't recommend Richard's MicroFit Stocks for a Savage.

I do STRONGLY recommend the other Richards, i.e. Richard's Custom Rifles, www.richardscustomrifles.com

Bill Shehane also makes good drop-in stocks for Savages, and SharpShooter Supply has a full range of fiberglass stocks that work well.

My MicroFit stock arrived looking like it had been finished with a chisel. LOTS of sanding required. The laminate is not very strong and the fore-arm will deflect if you place the end of the forearm on the front rest. I've learned to sit the gun a good 8" back.

The inletting around the trigger area was messed up. There wasn't enough wood to secure the rear pillar. This had to be built up again, requiring a lot of labor) with epoxy. I also had to open up the barrel channel.

Thanks so much for every-one's input... I can always count on you to help me spend my money... I ordered the 1000 yard MBR from Sharp Shooters Supply, Thanks for the offers to save me some money, but I have always had great service from SSS. Lisa is a real pistol ball and fun to talk to.

My new stock will be here in three weeks..

Shehane stock I ordered is not finished...not drop in!

In fact The recoil lug, front action hole, trigger guard all have to be inletted for.

I don't know if I had to mention drop in, but he said he would make me one. It came and I figured, maybe thats how the Laminates come?

Gunsmith is doing the work for me, obviously it will add to the price, but its not be doing the work or I'd be sweating it big Time.
