New stock and NEO

Never used a joystick before so when I first set up the NEO I thought it was logical to have the joystick move in the same direction as where you want to move. Made sense to me – up is up, right is right, etc. But when I actually tried it I found I was consciously telling myself – I want to go up so move the joystick up. Weird! The next time I tried it I set it up the other way and it was more natural. Didn’t have to think about it. I don’t understand that! Anybody else experience the same thing? Is this a right brain/left brain thing?

The flash changed the color on the left side. Black looks green. Right side are true colors.

Only 3 shot groups but was looking for vertical (or rather lack of it). Pretty decent at 43.7gr for 300 yds. The grid is 3/4".

I have my NEO set up opposite of yours, meaning single leg of rest pointed downrange. With my setup up with the joystick is up, right is right, etc.

I preferred this setup as the joystick would hit the position screw and it got annoying.

Your rest question is an interesting one.

I've studied some human factors, and I think I know why.

I think that your subconscious mind is accustomed to levers with a fulcrum.

Most of us have that predisposition, at least most of us that have used a pry bar or shovel.

The tendency is so strong that early airplane designers decided to have pilots pull toward themselves for nose up. That is a different subject that I won't get into...

TxBoy -

I know what you mean about the stick hitting the adjustment screw. However if it doesn't hit, it's handy as an anchor for your hand. If I wrap my pinky and ring finger around the adjustment screw and use my thumb and index finger for the stick, it seems to provide a stable setup. Still experimenting though.........

ITF,

Actually you can use/set your NEO in 4 (four) configurations.
1). Up for up w/ long leg in front
2). Up for up w/ long leg at the rear
3). Up for down w/ long leg in front
4). Up for down w/ long leg at rear

(It's reversible and the only one).
Up for up, or up for down, is definitely your choice, shooting style & preference. (I can use it both ways & both natural to me. ;)) -- But I prefer to set the long leg in front myself, for several reasons. *(just my preference, others may different). -- That way I can have 'more room' in front of me, I can adjust the rear legs more easier (within reach), I can also 'pin' the rifle when needed, as it's also more stable that way. --- Well, unless the bench top is quite short from back to front, I would set the long leg at rear, or just re-locate the front leg screw from the end tip of the leg to the middle part of the long leg. (that's the reason I make another thread hole on the long leg, instead to secure the extra short screw).

When/if you set the rest with long leg at rear (at shooter's side), remove the long leveling screw and replace it with the extra short screw provided in the package. That way your joystick wouldn't interfere with the rear leg/screw. (the head of the short screw is flushed and the tip area of the long leg is trimmed/more thinner for that reason).

Depends on your stock profile, shooting uphill or down hill, your comfort height/setup etc, it is important to set the base (i.e. the legs) so that you can reach/hold the joystick steadily, NOT hang in the air. It is better to lay down your hand (that operates the joystick) steadily on the bench top, or on a piece of 'brick bag' because you will be able to make the finest adjustment that way.

Raise the front leg(s) when you shoot uphill. That way your rest will make an angle and 'more square' with your gun. Your/NEO front bag is 'half round' shape (and relatively thin), it's designed to minimize 'bite' on the stock, for more consistent stock-frontbag contact, either vertically or horizontally.

Hope this help.
More later,
seb.

Thanks for your imput as always. How great is it that you monitor this site! Any word when Ernie is getting more product?

Thanks Again
Jim

Seb,
I would like to know how I can change the direction of the top? I purchased my neo used from br central and I have been trying to figure it out. I have a generation 2 also and I love it! You are producing a couple of great products!
Thanks for any help.
Vern

Also, if available I would like some thumb screws for the bag width screws if available.

DW5,

Attached here an exploded drawing of the NEO.
(Not exactly same with the current rests, but it will give you a good description about the rest/the parts).

FYI:

- The NEO rests are shipped in 'UP FOR UP' mode.

- You can attach the joystick on EITHER SIDES. Simply secure the stick into the center shaft (#13).

- It's REVERSIBLE, can be used either by right handed of left handed shooter.

- The main base is an "H" shape, which allows you to attach the 'leg 2' (#5, the one with integral handle) on EITHER SIDES. It will automatically set the long leg (#4) on the opposite side of the handle, or vice versa.

If you want to use it up for down, JUST inter-change the stopper set & bubble level.
With the 3 bags system you can also interchange the side plate assembly (#40) if you need the tightening screw at shooter's side.

Hope this help. Feel free to ask if you have any questions related to yours.
And thanks your for your kind words,
seb.

Seb,
Thank you for the information. Pleased to see someone supporting their products as well as you are.
Thanks,
Vern

No worry, it's my pleasure.
seb.

PS: please contact Ernie for parts, I'll send some spare parts to him.

RD,
The list grows almost everyday, therefore (& honestly) I can't confirm a very exact/precise waiting time.
Normally it would need about 8 months or more. I still have total about 60 people in the old/2011 list, btw.
Contact Rob Carnell (the Australian dealer) for pricing & information.
