New Sling/Prone build

I’d like to share with everyone my latest build.

It all started last winter when I saw a rifle posted on here with a maple/walnut stock. It was love at first sight, and I started my quest as to who made it. A couple of PM’s later, I found out the blank came from Johnny Byers. I showed the pic to my close friend shooting partner Dave (now living in Colorado) and he thought that matching stocks would be cool.

I contacted Johnny and he set out on a wood searching expedition. A couple of weeks later, the two blanks showed up at my door packaged as you can see in the pics. I knew immediately that someone that custom makes a box to ship something must have great attention to detail, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Moving forward to Labor Day weekend Dave and I meet in St. Louis for the Sierra Cup match, and I give him the blanks, a stock to use as a pattern and a new BB Panda F class action from Kelbly’s.

Dave takes a road trip from his place in Colorado, to Doan Trevor’s shop in Albuquerque, NM. to hand deliver all the hardware. Within several weeks that seemed like years Doan has worked his magic and completed BOTH rifles and shipped them back to us.

Mine is currently wearing a 6SLR barrel, while Dave’s in in 6.5 GWI. Both of us will be at the BSWN in February if you would like to see these works of art in action.

Enjoy my journey and thanks for looking,

Lloyd

Whoa... when U said build ... you meant... literally "build"

:)

Wood stocks are not my thing other than on USGI stuff but that is going to be a seriously sweet project

I really love them you get the benefit of some lamination strength and are able to maintain that beautiful traditional wood look. which in someways is even more pronounced on a target rifle as the butt stock is bigger than normal. When you said sling I was thinking you meant the un scoped iron sights Target Rifle Class.
