New Sierra 107s

I loaded some ammunition back on Friday. When I opened up the carton of 107s, I noticed they looked different. I measured the base to ogive and found that they were only 5 thousandths longer than the previous batch. However, when I checked the seating depth to touch the lands, they required nearly 40 thousandths more bullet extending from the case than the previous batch. This is not throat erosion as I compared the bullets from both lots that evening. Sierra has changed the ogive profile of the 107. Be aware. They work quite well.

hope they still will stabilize with 8twist since stabilization is a length function more than a weight function, isnt it?? the smk 107 is my favorite 6br load. thanks.

Donovan -- i'll pay shipping on the the 107's if you dont want them...

Scott -- just called sierra -- no change...just lot-to-lot issues.

I would call and complain about the issue, but be aware nothing was intentionally changed.

Jason,

I don't buy that. Look at the 6.5mm 142's from 5 years ago, and the ones today. Look at the new 7mm, 175SMK. Look at the new 210SMK in 30 cal. I guess the 107's are the same, but I don't have old ones to compare to.,I started shooting 6BR only 18 months years ago.)

You will see a trend. The ogive remains in the same spot, but the taper of the bullet to the bearing surface is much slower, creating a sort of VLD-ish profile. I found out the hard way about the 142's. Had this been a lot to lot error, I would have expected some variation in the last 2500 bullets, variation they haven't had.

Something is going one with them, and they're not letting us in one it. That's fine with me, as I'll continue to check the seating depth on each new box of 500. That is, as long as they continue to shoot.

I bought,2) 500 ct. boxes of 6.5 142's this year, the first box was great. I sort by bearing surface and weight, and had very few culls. The 2nd box was just as bad as the first box was good, same lot no.). The open tips were full of blue gook of some kind and what looked like tumbling media, in 100 of 500. I sent the 100 back to Sierra app. a month ago, I recieved an e-mail back saying that accuracy should not have been affected by the foreign material in the tips, and it looked like polish media. I was not going to shoot in a national championship at 1000 yards with bullets that looked like these. They never even refunded the 100 bullets or exchanged them. I just bought another 500 box, if these are not up to standard, I will be done with Sierra.

Chris -- the 175's i just got look like a big 142...obviously tangent.

the 210's on the other hand...

Jeff -- they dropped the ball there, call sierra back, they will give you another 100

Donovan -- did you get my PM?
