New shooter scope question for savage f/tr 308

Gun is as above. No high power rifle experience, have a 22mag I have shot crow with at 300 yds. Thats my experience with long range shooting. Been saving for awhile bought a savage f/tr .308 with 30 inch barrel. Stuck between a bushnell 30x with Horus 1900.00 at eurooptics, basically from what I know it's more of a tacticle scope good for quick second shots my friend just bought one. I am interested in info on some sort of competition scope or benchrest scope in 42x or 50x leaning toward nf or Leopoldo. I live in indiana other then range shooting .308 is pretty much overkill. We shotgun hunt deer. So yes much of it will be shooting known distant. 500 yds and 1000 yds. I like the idea of a finer reticle I shoot thin pins on my bow and it works. I have question about ranging with them nf ranging is done at 40x so how do I make the adjustment down to 20x and range. What I want to be able to do is go to the range shoot 1000 yds kick my buddy's butt with the bushnell. I guess everyone around here doing long range shooting is preaching ffp but when I really set down and think about it second focal plane with a higher mag seems to make more sense to me. Reall do not think I will ever be shooting 672 yd,s so I am thinking there is no need for a quick second shot. More mag bigger target smaller reticle a lot of the time here in the summer it's hot and dead calm no wind. I think I would like a second focal plane with some sort of ranging like the xlr reticle. Plan on purchasing a kestrel to go with it. Read so much on the internet I am just confused I guess. Please any help will be appreciated.

What's wrong with a Sightron 10-50X?

Unless you are shooting Tactical Matches with unknown distance targets why do you need to range.......

Most here use a second focal plane, not first. First focal plane is for ranging, but second focal plane can also be used for ranging, but only at a specific power level.

Buy a 12-42x Nightforce BR

I like some aspects of the Horus and similar reticles but I would never buy one for a gun that was going to be used for FT/R. Wanting to beat your friend is a goal of sorts but why do you need to do it with the same scope?

Price on the 2013 NF comps are pretty nice! I have one on my FTR rifle and love it!

$1650 or 1750 depending on color and/or reticle option.

+ 1 for above

Horus = shooting through a screen door.

If you are target shooting you don't need that and you don't need the extra $450 or so licensing fee that the manufacturers charge for it.

Get a 12-42 NF, a 10-60 Sightron, or even an 8-32 NF. I'd never use that much magnification hunting, but shooting at the itty bitty 10-ring on an F class target it's nice to have.
