I had the privilege this week of starting the oldest of my two grandsons in the shooting sports. He is 7 years old and listens closely to direction. I originally started him with my father's Remington 510, but because of the length of pull it was far too awkward for him to get comfortable. I switched him to a Daisy M2208 that I had on hand from the '80s when I bought it for his mother. The original rear sight had disappeared, so I replaced it with an 80s era Tasco ProPoint (which still works perfectly in spite of being used on everything from .45 ACPs to 12-gauge shotguns). The little Daisy has the advantage of being able to adjust the length of pull by sliding the butt plate in or out. I had also worked over the feed ramp and trigger. It's surprisingly accurate for such an inexpensive rifle. He picked up the theory and safety aspects quickly and was soon hitting pretty much anything he shot at. When we ran out of bottles of water for him to shoot we graduated to regularly picking off walnuts set on a small ledge on my backstop at thirty yards.
I think the pictures show his opinion of the afternoon.
